Services: 11 a.m on Saturday, October 10, 2009 at Grace Presbyterian Church in Beaver Dam

Visitation: 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 10th at the church

Violet M. Derleth, 95 years, of 133 Walnut St., Beaver Dam and was currently a resident of Hillside Manor passed away peacefully of Wednesday, October 7, 2009 at Hillside Manor in Beaver Dam.

Funeral services for Violet will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 10, 2009 at Grace Presbyterian Church in Beaver Dam with the Rev. Dr. Jack Harrison officiating.
A visitation will also be held on Saturday, October 10th from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. at the church. Interment will take place at Oakwood Cemetery in Beaver Dam.

Violet was born on March 12, 1914, the daughter of Dr. Generous R. and Anna (Skaar) Van Sant in Deerfield, WI. She was married to Henry H. Derleth in August of 1934. Violet was a graduate of Deerfield High School. Afterwards, she attended UW-Whitewater. Violet was a loving and devoted mother staying at home until her youngest child was in high school. She later worked as a secretary for Washington Elementary School in Beaver Dam until her retirement in 1979 at 65 years old.

Violet was involved with many interests and organizations. The organization that claimed the most time was the Parent Teacher Association- first as president of Lincoln Elementary P.T.A., then instrumental in forming the P.T.A for all Beaver Dam elementary schools. As president of the P.T.A., she was able to bring the Federal Milk Program to all Beaver Dam schools. Violet worked with the Safety Committee in the Beaver Dam City Council to create the school crossing guards program. Violet also composed a personal medical history and health record booklet which was made available to thousands of kindergartners. Violet helped introduce the 10 cent Saturday Matinee in Beaver Dam.

Violet was a member of Grace Presbyterian Church in Beaver Dam. She was a member of Sunset Hills Golf Club in Beaver Dam, and also the Fox Lake Country Club, where she was president of the Ladies League. Violet enjoyed gardening, and was an avid reader and card player. She had many collections and sent weekly postcards to her grandchildren. She attended football games to numerous to count. She was an accomplished pianist who entertained family and friends after the games.

Violetís greatest interest however was the interaction with her children, grandchildren, and her great grandchildren. She felt greatly blessed.

Violet is survived by her children: Melody Derleth of Beaver Dam, Henry M. (Gretchen) Derleth of Berlin, WI, Carol (Tom) Hartl of Spokane, WA, Kim Derleth of Fox Lake, Franklin (Cheryl) Derleth of Mission Viejo, CA, and Linda Derleth of Beaver Dam; 12 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Henry in 1981, three brothers: Franklin, Donald and Morley Van Sant, and her sister Rose Bothum.

I'm SORRY I missed Violet's obituary!!!--I only Noticed the Thank you Card!! But I can say, I'm SURE we ALL have Benefitted from her MANY Accomplishments!!! Am SORRY to hear of her passing, especially for all of her friends and Family!!! She Certainly Sounded like an AMAZING and TRULY ACCOMPLISHED Mother, Wife and MOSTLY Community Member!!! I'm SURE we will ALL be the Lessened from her Passing!!! DEEPEST SYMPATHIES!!! to all her Family Members!!!...& MANY THANKS!!!! for her Affect on Our LIVES!!!!

We loved our Grandma more than words can say! I was truly blessed to have her in my life! So many fond memories that I will treasure and pass down for years to come! I will always hold you in my heart. Much love Heather and Kurosh who will miss pushing grandma down the hall and playing games with her!
