Leona (Nee Dehring) Marsch, age 100, died on Thursday, August 24, 2006 at St. Agnes Hospital in Fond du Lac.
Visitation will be held on Monday, August 28, 2006 at St. Stephen Ev. Lutheran Church in Horicon from 10:30 AM until the time of the funeral service. The funeral service will be held at 12 Noon at the church following the visitation. Rev. Daniel Seehafer will officiate. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery in Mayville.
Leona Beata Dehring was born on October 7, 1905 to the late John M. and Anna Marie (Wetzel) Dehring on a farm in LeRoy Township, Dodge County, Wisconsin. She was one of twelve children. She helped in the demanding work of the family dairy farm (Gill Creek Farm), and there was little time to pursue an education. She attended Mayville High School until 1920, when she was obliged to return to the farm. On December 26, 1948 she married Edward E. Marsch in Brownsville. They settled in Horicon and resided there for the rest of their lives. Leona was active in community affairs as a volunteer at the Bethesda Fair and the VFW Auxiliary. She was an ardent swimmer and volleyball player for many years at the YMCA. She was a wonderful caregiver to several family members. She loved her cats, music, singing, knitting and playing the piano.
She is survived by seven nieces and nephews; Dr. Charles (Carolyn) Wellso of Cedar Rapids, IA, Dr. Stanley (Carol) Wellso of Bastrop, TX, Dr. Deborah (Robert Haina) Dehring of Iowa City, IA, Betty Sackett of Tucson, AZ, Carol (Dr. Thomas) Johnson of Tucson, AZ, Roger (Bonnie) Dehring of Wayzata, MN, Judy (Frank) Czech of McHenry, IL; sisters-in-law, Violet Dehring of Brownsville and Lucy Marsch of Horicon. She is also survived by many loving relatives of her husbands family.
Leona is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Edward on February 22, 1993 and all of her brothers and sisters.
The family suggests that memorials be made in Leona Marsch”s name to St. Stephen Ev. Lutheran Church.
The Murray Funeral Home in Horicon is serving the family.
