John F. Wedel

John F. Wedel, age 94, of Beaver Dam, died on Thursday, June 20, 2024 at Hillside Manor.

The visitation will be at St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Church in Beaver Dam, on Tuesday, June 25, 2024 from 9:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will follow on Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. with Fr. Nick Dhein officiating. Burial will be at St. Michael Cemetery in Beaver Dam.

John Francis was born on March 28, 1930 in Columbus, Wisconsin to Joseph and Margaret (O’Connor) Wedel. He was a 1948 graduate of Beaver Dam High School. John was united in marriage with Rosemary Ann Hepp on June 19, 1954 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Lost Lake. John and Rosemary raised their family on a farm in the Town of Calamus, Dodge County. He was active with the Township and served as the chairman for ten years. John also worked at Metal Fab in Beaver Dam for ten years.  John and Rosemary enjoyed traveling to their cottage in Minocqua, where they spent countless hours boating and fishing on the lake. They also enjoyed taking Sunday drives, rain or shine. If John had a steering wheel in his hand, he was a happy man. He was a member of several card clubs and was always willing to play some Euchre or Sheepshead. John’s faith was important to him and he instilled this in his children as well. He was a member of St. Katharine Drexel Parish.

John is survived by his children, Donald (Patrice) Wedel of Beaver Dam, Christine (Charles) Fischer of Constantine, MI, and John (Christine) Wedel of Baraboo; 11 grandchildren; 32 great grandchildren, and one on the way; six step grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Klatt of Beaver Dam, and Jeanette (Dennis) Olson of Washington DC; sister-in-law, Carol Wedel of Beaver Dam; nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; an infant sister; son, David Wedel; brother, Joseph Wedel; and brother-in-law, Duane “Jim” Klatt.

The family extends a heartfelt thank you to the entire Hillside Manor team for their care and compassion given to John.
