Hilmer M. Wahl, 102, of Beaver Dam was called home to his Lord on Thursday, October 15, 2026.
Hilmer was born August 3, 1924, the son of Edward and Helen (Tietz) Wahl in Watertown, WI. He was baptized and attended school at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church and School in Watertown. After finishing his education, he purchased a farm in Reeseville where he lived and raised his family. He later sold the farm and moved to Beaver Dam where he did trucking for area businesses. Hilmer was a member of St. Stephen’s Ev. Lutheran Church in Beaver Dam.
In 1977, he married Fay Baker Lenz. They enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and were also able to tour Germany, Austria and Switzerland. One of his favorite pastimes was getting together with friends at the Watermark in Beaver Dam for a good game of Sheepshead. He treasured holiday get togethers with family and enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Hilmer’s legacy of tenaciousness, boundless energy, love for family, travel, and especially his 75 years of card playing will live on in memories to all who knew him. Hilmer had countless friends and never failed to make a new one wherever he went. His presence will be sorely missed.
Hilmer is survived by his wife Fay and together they nurtured a combined family of seven: Dale (Becky Burke) Wahl, Denise Wahl, Darlene (Jeff) Raabe, Lisa (Lance) Novak, Rhonda (Tom) Walters, and David (LeAnne) Lenz; daughter-in-law Renee Wahl; 11 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and is further survived by other relatives and friends.
He joins in eternal rest his son Gary; granddaughter Stephanie Wahl; his parents; two brothers; and three sisters.
A visitation will be held at St. Stephen’s Ev. Lutheran Church in Beaver Dam on Tuesday, October 20, 2026 from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11 a.m. Rev. Matthew Reis will officiate. Interment will take place at Oakwood Cemetery in Beaver Dam.
Memorials may be directed to St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church in Beaver Dam.
Hilmer’s family would like to thank the UW Hospital ICU unit and trauma team for their care and compassion they gave to his family.
