Alfred E. Schneider, 87, of Columbus (township of Calamus) passed away on Monday, August 8, 2016 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Madison. Alfred was born the son of Edward and Ellen (Hirn) Schneider on March 15, 1929 at his family’s home in Rocksprings, WI. He was married to Barbara A. Fish on March 31, 1951 in Dubuque, IA. Alfred began his working career in delivery for Standard Oil Co. and later was employed in highway construction. In 1967, he began farming and continued hog farming in the township of Calamus until his retirement. Alfred enjoyed painting especially oil painting and was a member of the Columbus Art Association. He enjoyed swimming at the Dodge Co. YMCA. In his earlier years, Alfred enjoyed dancing with his wife, Barbara. Alfred and Barbara looked back fondly at their twenty years spent wintering in South Texas. Alfred is survived by his wife, Barbara of Columbus; his son, Richard (Stacy) Schneider of Madison; his sister, Audrey (Gene) Sinner of Baraboo; nine grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Dennis; his grandson, Sean; and his siblings: Ewald, Roger, Wilma Koenecke, Crystal Herritz, and Mary Lou Jicha. It was Alfred’s wish that no formal funeral services be held and cremation is to occur. Inurnment will take place at Reedsburg Cemetery at a later date.
