Anita Armella Steger

Anita Armella (Neumeyer) Steger peacefully passed away November 18th having recently celebrated her 89th birthday on October 20th surrounded by family and friends. As a young woman, Anita worked for many years at Purity Cheese and then later as a cafeteria food service worker for the Mayville School District from which she retired. Anita was never happier than when working in her yard, whether she was admiring flowers in her garden, looking for butterflies, taking care of the birds or stabbing dandelions. She enjoyed getting together with the “girls” on Monday nights to play cards and in years past going to flea markets and rummage sales always searching for that special “find”. Anita was a great story teller looking at photos and remembering every minute detail. She loved to take drives in the countryside after having lunch with friends and family culminating with a bowl of black cherry ice cream. Anita was a long-time member of St. Mary’s Congregation in Mayville.Anita will be missed by her children Michael (Jane) Steger of Campbellsport, Margo Francis of Cary, North Carolina and Mitchell Steger of Mayville; two grandchildren Daniel Steger and Riley Francis; her sister Mary (Bob) Spiering, sisters-in-law Susan Neumeyer and Betty Steger and brother-in-law Gerald Beck; and her many dear nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbors and her best friend, Laurie Miller.She was preceded in death by the love of her life, Merle Steger; her parents Adolph and Regina (Rohlinger) Neumeyer; her in-laws Lawrence and Loretta Steger; her sister Arlene Beck and brothers Vernon and Jerome Neumeyer; sisters-and brothers-in-law Lawrence (Sonny) and Lucille Steger, Clarence Steger, and Betty and Carl Bandle.Visitation for Anita will be held Sunday, November 25th from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Koepsell Funeral Home in Mayville with another visitation that will be held on Monday, November 26th from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Mayville with a Mass of Christian Burial to immediately follow at 11:00 a.m. The burial will take place at St. Mary’s Cemetery.The family would like to thank the staff of Matthews Senior Living in Horicon and Agnesian Health Care Hospice of Fond du Lac for the loving care of their mother.In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to St. Mary’s Congregation of Mayville, the Ronald McDonald House of Madison or an organization of your choosing.Her spirit lives on and when you see a butterfly, you can remember Anita.
