Arthur Wallendal, age 87, died Sunday, February 4, 2007 at the Golden Living Center in Beaver Dam.
Friends may call at St. John”s Lutheran Church in Beaver Dam on Saturday, February 10, 2007 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM. Funeral services will follow at church on Saturday, beginning at 11:00 AM. Rev. Mark Jensen will officiate. Burial will be at Highland Memory Gardens in the Town of Trenton, Dodge County, Wisconsin on Monday, February 12, 2007 at 9:30 AM. Graveside military honors will be provided by the John E. Miller American Legion Post #146 in Beaver Dam.
Arthur Wallendal was born on January 25, 1920 in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin to the late Sam and Edna (DeYoung) Wallendal. He served as an anti aircraft gunner in the United States Army during World War II. Art was a gun commander of a five man crew in France and Germany and would often go ahead to scout for gun positions. Having served in the European theater of war, he was involved in many battles, including the invasion of Normandy. He worked for Gardner Manufacturing in Horicon and retired after 20 years. He was a member of St. John”s Lutheran Church in Beaver Dam and had been active in the choir.
Survivors include his daughter, Carla (John) Greene of Beaver Dam; his two sons, Dahl Wallendal of Campbellsport and Lyle (Debra) Wallendal of Beaver Dam;11 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren; his brother, Miendert “Mike” (Betty) Wallendal of Beaver Dam; two sisters, Grace Thym of Dousman and Anna Schultz of Waupun; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Mr. Wallendal was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, a toddler brother, Paul and three adult brothers, Jacob, Samuel and John.
The family suggests that memorials be made in Arthur Wallendal”s name to St. John”s Lutheran Church in Beaver Dam.
