Bruce E. Gruthoff, age 84, of Beaver Dam, died on Monday, May 15, 2023 at his home, with his daughter, Holly by his side holding his hand.
A celebration of Bruce’s life will take place at the Fox Lake Golf Club, N10500 Indian Point Road in Fox Lake on Sunday, May 21, 2123 from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m.
Bruce Edwin was born on May 5, 1939 in Chicago, Illinois to Fletcher and Evelyn (Jene) Gruthoff. He graduated from Morton High School and went on to receive a B.S. from the University of Wisconsin – Stevens Point. Bruce furthered his education to earn his M.S. from Western Illinois University. Bruce worked for the Chicago Zoological Society at the Brookfield Zoo. Other jobs included the United States Fish and Wildlife Service, the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources and later, Ducks Unlimited, which he retired from in 2002. Bruce’s entire professional life dealt with wildlife conservation but his true passion was wetland conservation. He was a very avid upland game hunter and fisherman. Bruce had a great passion for gardening, tending to his flowers and woodworking.
Bruce is survived by his children, Heather (Scott) Wasson of Wisconsin Rapids, Brent Gruthoff of Madison, and Holly (Junior) Dehler of Randolph; grandchildren, Justin Kingery, Kayla (Ben) Kingery, Maxwell (Shelby) Wasson, Angelina Wasson, and Logan (Alana) Wasson; great grandchildren, Levi, Rowyn, and Daxton, Nova and Cooper, and Jakari, and Dezmae; other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Fletcher Gruthoff; and sisters, Betty Norberg and Ann Allgaier and many beloved canine hunting companions.
