Bear was truly one of my dearest friends. Our mutual interest in the Brewers, Packers, Badgers, Marquette, and the Bucks was the glue and we enjoyed many games together. Our love of music and good polka on the juke box of the Bears Den brought additional joy to our lives. It is rare to find anyone who has made a positive impact on so many people as Bear did. He loved tending bar and he loved to cook. He was filled with personality and it seemed that everyone who met him came quickly to become his friend. Rest in Peace Bear. Keep cheering on our teams in your heavenly home. The world misses your enthusiasm and your genuine caring attitude.
A terrific guy who will be missed by many.
I am so sorry for your great loss. May The God who binds up the broken hearted and comforts all who mourn be with your family during this most difficult time. -Isaiah 61:1, 2
Almost everyone who knew "Bear" would tell you what a wonderful, fun loving and easy going man he was. Besides being a local business man and leader, he was an excellent coach and trip organizer. It was difficult
to have a bad time when you were in his presence. Those of us who travelled to Jimmy Buffet Concerts with
him, coached with or by him or worked with him, truly enjoyed our time with him. His accepting personality
and fine tuned sense of humor made him a joy to be with. Not that he was a Saint but we are all better for knowing him and sharing time with him.
We will certainly miss Bear, his stories, his laughter, and of course, his pizzas. Our sympathies go out to all of your family.
Bear was a fun and caring person! He always had a smile and a helping hand! He will be missed!
Thank you Bear, We coached together for at least 20 years- so many great and fun times! What a gift box of memories that is! I can never begin to repay you. Thanks for all the road trips, especially those to and from La Crosse. Thanks for the oatmeal cookies and cigars. Thanks for reminding me to take a bite out of life. I am smiling because I know I will get to see you again. Rest in peace my friend.
Oh, we are sorry to here this happened. We have lived in Missouri since 2007. We spent 23 years in Theresa. Many hours were spent at Bear's Den in Theresa & later his & Nancy's Restaurant in Mayville. My mother still talks about the good fish fries we all enjoyed at Bear's Den. We remember the gatherings of locals at Bear's. Grandma Steger was such fun and always made us laugh. Bear's mom, dad, and uncle Clarence were all people we liked conversing with & miss. We saw his children grow, knew his whole family. We have fond memories of our time with all these people and the 23 years we spent around them. Bear was the same age as Mark, to young to be gone. Our sympathy goes out to the family, friends, of Bear. We can not be there in person, but we are with you in thought. We think of you all often and reminisce in the good times we had with all of you.
RIP. You will be missed. Prayer for the family.
Peace be yours.
We are so sorry for your loss. We both have great memories of Bear. He always had a smile on his face. Mike enjoyed the golf matches with Bear and Nancy. Julie remembers all the time Bear spent with her brother Jerry and her family. He was like an adopted brother to the Schmidt family. He will be greatly missed.
I knew him as as Bear and thought of him as a good guy. Bruce Steger
Very sorry to hear. Annette Doty
I'm saddened to hear about this. Bear had a heart of gold. His smile and laugh came from his heart. He knew how to run a good business and had excellent customer service skills. A memory: During our senior year at LHS, Bear, Mark Hefter, Jerry Schmidt, and I sang in a barbershop quartet with help from Mrs. Daehn. We even went on tour, doing performances in Fond du Lac and Ripon (with our gold jackets) and we sang The Old Songs' and many others.
Thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends.
Hey Cub & Gary, I'm sorry for your loss of Bear. I've wanted to get over to Theresa to see him but never made it. You think you have time to see someone, then this happens. You are in my prayers and thoughts.
May God bless you and your family. Ron & I were so happy to see you opened another bar. We feel really glad that we were able to see you again. Heaven is your home where we will see you again. Denise & Ron Rusch
