Carleen Elizabeth Hasenstab (Nee: Mahoney) left for her heavenly home on Thursday, May 29, 2025 at the age of 78. She was born August 6,1946 in Beaver Dam, WI to Robert T. and Genevieve E. Mahoney (Nee: Miller). After 9 years of being the only child, Carleen excitedly welcomed her sibling Mary, followed three years later by Ann, and finally, another five years later by Jim. Never has a family held more love for one another.
After graduating from Juneau High School in Juneau, WI, Carleen went on to college at UW Steven’s Point where she received her degree in Speech Pathology. Shortly after graduation, she married her high school sweetheart, Lynn Hasenstab on July 6, 1968. Together, they had two children: Paul and Renae. Carleen worked as a Speech Therapist at our local prisons (Dodge Correctional, Waupun Correctional and Fox Lake Correctional) for several years. Once Paul and Renae were in High School, Carleen felt the call to take classes at MPTI in Beaver Dam to become a baker, a career she loved everything about (except for the early mornings!) She later put her food service knowledge to use at the Beaver Dam Hospital cafeteria from which she retired at the age of 52.
In their retirement, Lynn and Carleen enjoyed traveling the world and volunteering with the Red Cross, through which they were able to be a part of the Hurricane Katrina clean-up in New Orleans. After traveling through the United States, they decided to spend their winters in Florida, first living on Big Pine Key and then moving north to Mount Dora in 2018 where they have made great friends with their neighbors.
Her family will miss her sharp wit and her sense of humor, her hugs, and of course, her cinnamon rolls with hickory nuts. We will also miss the way she could start a friendship with anyone in the aisles of Walmart or the tables of Culver’s, making small talk and sharing the warmth of her smile.
Carleen is preceded in death by her parents and her dear aunts and uncles. She is survived by the love of her life, Lynn (aka Clem), her children: Paul (Julie) Hasenstab of Milton, WI and Rev. Renae (Shane) Dymond of Horicon, WI, and her five grandchildren: Jacob Dymond of Selah, WA, Adam Hasenstab of Milton, WI, Josie Hasenstab of Florence, AZ, Leah and Liam Dymond of Horicon, WI. She is further survived by her siblings: Mary (Jim) Sanderson of Columbus, WI, Ann (Dave) Knutson of Beloit, WI, Jim (Karen) Mahoney of Suring, WI, brother in-law Larry Hasenstab of Beaver Dam, WI and her beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and Lynn and Carleen’s loyal dog, Radar.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Carleen will be held on Thursday, June 5, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Church, 511 S. Spring St, Beaver Dam with Father Nick Dhein as celebrant. There will be no visitation prior. Inurnment will be at St. Peter’s Catholic Cemetery at a later date.
Our deepest thanks to St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Church (Beaver Dam, WI), Sacred Heart Parish (Horicon, WI), St. Patrick Catholic Church (Mount Dora, FL) and St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Parish (Big Pine Key, FL) for their spiritual nourishment throughout Carleen’s life.
