Cleo Kahlhamer, 97, of Mayville passed away on Thursday, March 26, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.
Funeral Services for Cleo will be held on Monday, March 30, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church in Mayville with Rev. Joshua Frazee and Rev. Dr. Mark G. Cutler officiating. A visitation for Cleo will be held at church on Monday, March 30, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at 1:00 p.m. Following the service, Military Honors will be conducted by the Mayville American Legion Post #69 at St. John’s Cemetery in Mayville.
Cleo was born on August 9, 1928, to Rose Moser and Albrecht Kahlhamer in Lastrup, Minnesota. He graduated Mayville high school in 1946 and enlisted in the United States Army in 1947. While in the army he became an expert rifleman and earned 2 stripes.
Cleo was united in marriage to Jeanette Neitzel on September 28, 1949, in Mayville.
Cleo held various construction jobs in Arizona and Wisconsin often acting as project foreman. In 1967 he founded Modern Marble Mfg. and ran the business for 27 yrs before proudly selling it to his son Jeff and his wife Bev. After retirement he and his wife, Jeanette, spent the winters in Arizona as Snowbirds enjoying the sunshine.
Cleo’s passion and hobby was airplanes. He belonged to EAA for almost 50 years and served as chapter secretary and vice president many times. In 2007 he bought the blueprints to start building his own ultra cruiser airplane which he successfully completed in 2018. Cleo volunteered as a sponsor on the honor flight to Washington DC. He was also a docent for many years at Falcon Field in Mesa, Arizona.
Cleo is survived by his three children: Brad Kahlhamer of New York, NY, Jeff (Beverly)Kahlhamer of Horicon, WI, and Amy (Robert) Honegger of River Hills, WI; his grandchildren: Robert (Jami), Dustin (Ashley),Brett, Isabel, and Zachary; and 4 great grandchildren: Laynie, Landon, Adaline, and Theo. Cleo is further survived by his special friend Joyce Duffy, nieces and nephews, other relatives and many close friends.
Cleo was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 57 years, Jeanette; his brother, Melvin Kahlhamer; and sisters: Ursula, Doreen, Geraldine, and Irene.
