My sincere sympathies to your family during this difficult time. I met Dan while caring for him as he learned of his diagnosis. He recognized me as one of the “shoemaker girls” immediately, and we bonded and shared many hunting, FFA, and 4-H stories there after. I will never forget his kind remarks and his pure heart, as I know he walks with Jesus now. ❤
Our sincere sympathy to Shannon and family for the loss of your husband and father. I knew Dan through the 4h program in Dodge County. He was a great example of a helpful and knowledgable Extension Agent. He was always willing to go out in the community and contect with people, sharing generously with his knowledge.
My sincere condolences to Shannon and family. I'm sorry for your loss. Dan was bright and kind, always trying hard in sports in high school, really easy to talk with, a really good guy. I will always remember him fondly.
Shannon and family, I am so sorry for your loss. I roomed with Dan at UW-Platteville. Dan also was a groomsman at our wedding. Unfortunately, I did not keep in contact with Dan and that was my loss. I wish our paths had crossed again. Thanks for the memories, Dan.
So sad to see this. My thoughts and prayers are with Shannon and her children and the entire Short family. I was lucky to go hunt pheasants with Dan in the early 70s and I shot my first pheasant with him. Dan was a few years older than me and always gave me a hard time about dating his sister, but he was always kind to me and I will remember many fun times with him.
My deepest sympathy.
Shannon and family, our deepest sympathy. Dan was a true friend . Will miss seeing him at the ponds running his trap lines. Always enjoyed sitting with him at coffee and sharing stories . When we occasionally got together at our cabins I Would always get good ideas on how to improve things at mine.
Shannon, so sorry for your loss. Always enjoyed Dan's hunting adventures when he would come into "the Pig". Stay strong.
Shannnon, Josh, Krystal and the rest of Dan's family, I was deeply saddened to hear of Dan's passing. During the 19 years Dan and I worked together I was impressed by the depth of Dan's knowledge on a wide variety of topics. I also appreciated his insights, sense of humor and concern for the wellbeing of others.
Dan was one of a kind! We spent our high school years together in Belleville and our college years together in Platteville. Dan always put forth his full effort in everything he did. The Shorts pretty much epitomized "Belleville football", but my favorite BHS sports memory, of Dan, was from a track meet in Orfordville. Dan was a pole vaulter, but on that day he was also asked to run the 440 yard dash. He was in the second heat of the event and by the time the gun went off to start his race the top three places had been pretty much determined by the times in the first heat which had the faster runners. Dan, however, didn't let that deter him and as the second heat came to an end, Dan and another runner were running side by side, vying for first place in the heat. In order to beat his opponent, right before the finish line Dan launched himself horizontally, about three feet off the ground to get a part of himself across the finish line ahead of the other runner. The action was noble, but the landing wasn't. Orfordville had a crappy old cinder track and myself and a couple other guys spent about half an hour after the race picking cinders out of his arms, legs, and shoulders then spraying him down with one of those pink methyolate bombs. But that was Dan, whatever he could do to help, full speed ahead! My condolences to his family. His passing will be mourned by all who had the good fortune to come in contact with him at some point in his lifetime.
Shannon, I am so very sorry for your lose. Dan was a good man and I was always going to call him to check out Dick's guns. Never put off I'm told. Sure he and Dick are reminiscening old times. Hang on to all the good memories. Prayers to you and the whole family. Shirley Thieme
I knew Dan in high school and college. We dated for about 6 years. He was a gentle soul that loved outdoors and nature. I am sure he will be missed. It is with sadness I offer my condolences
Shannon and all the Short family: My sincerest sympathy in Dan's passing. We had fun times together at our family picnic's in Paoli when we were kids. As we grew older our paths didn't often cross but Dan was so enjoyable to talk with when we did see each other. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.
So sorry for your loss. He was one of the kindest men from my high school class. I saw him once at the state fair. We had a great conversation about growing up on a farm around Belleville. He is now free of his earthy illness and back doing everything he loved and looking after his family from above.
My sincerest condolences. We had some good times at Paoli School.
Shannon, I am so sorry for your loss. I have so many childhood memories with you guys. I used to love sitting and talking with Dan about his hunting adventures. He will be greatly missed.
Was shocked and saddened to learn of Dan's passing. He was always a favorite customer while I worked at P.J s restaurant. Sincere sympathies.
I never got a chance to see Dan after we graduated high school, but I will always remember his friendship while in school. Hi was one of those kids you loved to be around, always smiling and having fun. His memories will live on with everyone who knew him. My sincerest condolences to his family.
I worked with Dan as a fellow UW-Extension agricultural agent. He was a great teacher and a wonderful fellow. He will be missed.
Rest In Peace my friend! Dan & Darcy Rydquist
My deepest condolences to all of you. Dan was a fantastic person and his dedication to the youth in agriculture has had a lifelong impact on the agriculture industry. The many lives he touched, including mine, planted a seed to pursue a career in the future of agriculture. I will be forever grateful for the education and guidance he gave all the livestock youth in Dodge County.
Dan was a very nice guy. Glad I got to know him through my Uncle Ralph Pahl and Dodge County Fair. He will be missed by many.
