Dorothy L. Schmitz, 88, of Beaver Dam passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Friday, May 17, 2024 at Prairie Ridge Health Hospital in Columbus, Wisconsin.
A memorial gathering for Dorothy will be held on Wednesday, May 22, 2024 from 12:30 p.m. until 1:00 p.m. at the Koepsell-Murray Funeral Home in Beaver Dam. A memorial service will begin at 1:00 p.m. with Deacon Randy Wells officiating. As Dorothy requests, please dress casually. Inurnment will be at Highland Memory Gardens in the Town of Trenton.
Dorothy was born on April 4, 1936 the daughter of Dana and Inez (Warncke) Radant in the Town of Herman. On August 24, 1957, she was united in marriage with Thomas Schmitz in Augusta, Georgia.
Along with raising her family, Dorothy stayed busy working at several area businesses such as Green Giant, A & W, Hardees and West Bend Company. Dorothy loved baking, especially chocolate chip cookies. She enjoyed completing puzzles and going to the Senior Center where she played cards and bingo.
For over 20 years, Dorothy and Tom enjoyed spending their winters in Arizona where they made many friends. They enjoyed riding their motorcycle together and were members of the Gold Wing Road Riders Association. Dorothy was a faithful active member of St. Katharine Drexel Parish. She volunteered in many groups until she moved to Randolph Assisted Living Center, where she also enjoyed making many friends.
Dorothy is survived by her children, Thomas (Susan Marshall) Schmitz of Waynesboro, VA and Lorrie (John) Schoenberger of Beaver Dam; three grandchildren, Lauren (Matt) Steed, Lindsey Schoenberger and Justin Schoenberger; two great grandchildren, Evelyn and Adelaide Steed; sister, Arlene Marthaler of Beaver Dam; brother, Jerry (Margaret) Radant of Oregon; sister-in-law Kaye Radant of Texas; also nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Tom in 2018, and her brother Eugene Radant.
The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff of Randolph Assisted Living, especially Harriet for making Dorothy feel at home; and the staff of Prairie Ridge Health Hospital; especially nurse Katy and Dr. Bartz for your care, compassion and kindness. Also, special thank you to our neighbors on East Circle Drive, especially Wayne and Kathy Gibbs and Howard and Judy DeVries of Randolph for their friendship throughout the years.
