Elmer L. Steinbach

Elmer Louis Steinbach, 85 years old, of Mayville, passed away Tuesday, October 25, 2016 at St. Agnes Hospital in Fond du Lac.A funeral service will take place on Friday, October 28 at Immanuel Ev. Lutheran Church (River Church) in Mayville at 2 pm. with the Rev. Douglas Zahner officiating. A visitation will take place on Friday, October 28 from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the church. Burial will follow at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery with military honors provided by the Mayville American Legion Post #69. Elmer was born the son of Gerhardt and Ella (Koepsell) Steinbach on January 24, 1931. He was united in marriage to Mardell Wendorf on June 19, 1954 at Immanuel Ev. Lutheran Church. He was a veteran of the US Marine Corps. serving in Korea. He worked on the family farm, Purity Cheese and then bought Pioneer Pole (renamed to Truss’s Plus) where he served as President and part owner. He was a lifelong member of Immanuel Ev. Lutheran Church. Elmer was also a proud member of the Mayville American Legion Post #69 as well as the Mayville VFW. In his spare time Elmer loved watching NASCAR and was a huge fan of Dale Earnhardt, Sr. He also enjoyed watching sports especially the Chicago Cubs and this year was an exciting one for the Cubbies! Elmer and Mardell also liked their Tuesday night’s at the Mayville Legion Post shaking dice and playing bingo with their family and friends. He also liked his wordsearches.Elmer is survived by: his wife of 62 years Mardell of Mayville. His children- Gary Steinbach of Iron Ridge, Lorie Figel of Mayville, Kenny Steinbach of Theresa, Janice (Special friend Clint Brummond) Walters of Mayville, and Joyce (Kale) Peterman of Iron Ridge. His grandchildren- T.J. Steinbach, Korin Figel, Kelsey Figel, Kelli Steinbach, and Kyle (Special friend Stephanie Schmidt) Walters. His great grandchildren- Tyanna and Treyton. His brother- Louie (Lore) Steinbach of Lomira. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.He was preceded in death by his parents and in laws Kelly and Adeline Wendorf. His brother in law Leroy (Mickey) Schultz and sister in law Shirley Bunkoskee.Memorials may be directed to Immanuel Ev. Lutheran Church or the Dodge County Humane Society.
