Elsie “Ellie” Schoeffel

Elsie “Ellie” M. Schoeffel, of Beaver Dam, passed away on Tuesday, February 6, 2018 at the age of 86 years, 9 months, and 29 days at her home. Visitation for Ellie will be held on Saturday, February 17, 2018 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at St. Stephen’s Ev. Lutheran Church in Beaver Dam. A memorial service will follow at 11 a.m. with Rev. Philip Heyer officiating at the church. Inurnment will take place at Highland Memory Gardens on a later date. Ellie was born the daughter of Lester and Selma (Griesbach) Helbing on April 8, 1931 in the Tn. of Trenton. She was a 1948 graduate of Beaver Dam High School. On May 12, 1951 she was united in marriage to Harvey H. Schoeffel at St. Stephen’s Ev. Lutheran Church in Beaver Dam. Ellie worked for the People’s Telephone Co., and later Nancy’s Notions. Ellie was a faithful member of St. Stephen’s Ev. Lutheran Church in Beaver Dam. She was very active at the senior center, and liked to volunteer at the hospital. Ellie loved to take long walks, was involved in a writing group, and she enjoyed writing her own poetry. Most important to Ellie was her love for God and her family. She is survived by her two sons; Daniel (Elaine) Schoeffel of LaCrosse, David (Rhonda) Schoeffel of Mukwonago, siblings; Phyllis (Irwin) Smith and Robert Helbing, brother-in-law; Dale Schmidt, seven grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren. Ellie is further survived by other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Harvey in 2016, sisters; Lou Ann Cain, Mary Schmidt, and sister-in-law Donna Helbing.
