Dear Lyons family, I knew Emily from St. Thomas. I lived right next door to her and spoke with her often when she worked on homework with my roommate, when we got ready for our classes at 8am, and when we ran into each other walking around campus. Emily always made me smile, even at the beginning of the school year when I knew no one else on campus and felt nervous and out of place. She was one of the nicest people I have met and I am so thankful to have known her. I continue to keep her and all of you in my thoughts and prayers.

We have talked every night about your beautiful Emily. The impact of her death is so profound and has reminded us of the importance of everyday life, family and the love we have for each other. If we could go and get her and bring her back to you we would. You raised a beautiful daughter who valued everything. Even in death, she still gave back, and that is what will always keep her near. She will always be beside you and you will have gentle unexpected reminders that she is there. We hope that somehow that will bring you peace. Take care of yourselves, you are in our thoughts and prayers.
