Esther H. Hartwig, 89 years old, of Fox Lake, passed away on Tuesday, May 12, 2015 at U.W. Hospital in Madison. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, May 18th at 1:00 p.m. at St. John Ev. Lutheran Church in Fox Lake, with the Rev. David Nottling officiating. A visitation will be held on Monday, May 18th from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. at St. John Ev. Lutheran Church in Fox Lake. Burial will take place at St. John Cemetery, Mayville. Esther was born on August 21, 1925, the daughter of Otto and Minnie (Siegmann) Bogenschneider in the township of Theresa. Esther graduated from Mayville High School in 1942. She attended Oshkosh Business College and LaSalle University in Chicago, IL, studying accounting. Esther was united in marriage to Arthur J. Hartwig on June 8, 1946 at Immanuel Ev. Lutheran Church (River Church). She owned and operated Hartwig Bookkeeping and Tax Service in Mayville from 1970 – 1986. Esther was a member of St. John Ev. Lutheran Church in Fox Lake. She was treasurer of St. John Dorcas Society and was zone secretary of WMLS Mission Society. Esther served as secretary for the Mayville Chamber of Commerce as well as secretary-treasurer for the Fox Lake Property Owners. Esther was a charter member of the Mayville United Way & Historical Society. She was vice president & treasurer of the Fox Lake Golf Club, and was a member of the Am. Legion Auxiliary of Mayville & Fox Lake. Esther was a member of the National Society of Accountants, a member of the Wisconsin Assoc. of Public Accountants, and she was listed in “Who’s Who of American Women”.Esther is survived by: her husband Art of Fox Lake; her son Russell (Beth) Hartwig of Suamico; her daughter-in-law Mary (Henry) Salgado of Greenville, SC; 2 sisters-in-law Sylvia Hartwig of Neshkoro & Laurelee Hartwig of Brownsville; grandchildren Jonathon (Angela) Hartwig, Dr. Jennifer (Dr. William) Lindstrum, Penny (Dale) Wiser, and Melissa (Mike) Neu; 12 great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.Esther is preceded in death by her parents, her brother Harland, and her son James in 1988.Memorials may be directed to St John Ev. Lutheran Church debt fund or the Fox Lake Public Library.
