Everett “Ev” Myers, age 79, of Horicon, died on Sunday, November 26, 2006, surrounded by his family.
Friends and family may call at the Murray Funeral Home in Beaver Dam on Wednesday, November 29, 2006 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM and on Thursday, November 30, 2006 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Thursday at 11:00 AM. Cremation will follow.
Everett L. Myers was born on November 2, 1927 in Ladoga, Wisconsin to the late Jacob and Sadie (Talbert) Myers. Following graduation from Waupun High School in 1945, he enlisted in the United States Navy. Everett married Ruth (Wedde) in Waupun on March 4th, 1950. Everett worked for John Deere Horicon Works for 29 years. He retired from John Deere in 1980 and became a partner of Methods Mfg. In 1983, “Ev” and his son Steve bought-out the other business partners and the company became known as Myers Manufacturing. Everett was truly a visionary, seizing opportunities with a passion for success.
Everett was an active member of the Horicon community. He served on the city council and a few years later was elected Mayor of Horicon. As mayor he was instrumental in starting the “EMT” service in Horicon. “Ev” was a charter member of Rock River Hills Golf Course. Everett was a member of the American Legion in Horicon. Not only did “Ev” enjoy golfing, he also enjoyed playing cards, traveling, hunting and fishing, especially his trips to Canada. The one thing that “Ev” really looked forward to was his monthly penny poker games played with his high school buddies. “Ev” also enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. The past fifteen years he and his wife spent at their home on John”s Lake in Wautoma were very relaxing and rewarding. Ev had a real love for nature and animals, especially the birds that he fed every day.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth Myers of Horicon, two children, Steve (Mary Ann) Myers of Beaver Dam and Vonda (Rick) Tomlinson of Sheboygan Falls, eight grandchildren; Robin (Joel) Lucas of New Berlin, Jennifer (Mathias) Meyer of Wauwatosa, Anthony Myers (Fiancee Vanessa Naczek) of Watertown, Kathryn, Hailey, Makayla, Taylor and Sydney Tomlinson, all of Sheboygan Falls, two great granddaughters, Olivia Lucas and Natalie Meyer, two sisters, Hazel Wonder of Rockford, Illinois and Darlene Heideman of Waupun, best friend & pet, Abby, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Everett was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter, Vicky Myers, four brothers, Arley, Roy, Donald, and Melvin and four sisters, Grace, Blanch, Dorothy and Elsie.
The family suggests that memorials be made in Everett L. Myers” name to either the Dodge Health Foundation or the Dodge County Big Brother”s and Big Sister”s Organization.
Everett will be remembered for his gracious spirit and his heart of gold.
