Fern Schlaff
Fern E. Schlaff, age 89, a life-long resident of Beaver Dam, died Thursday, December 7, 2006 at the Beaver Dam Community Hospital.
Friends and family may call at the Murray Funeral Home in Beaver Dam on Wednesday, December 13, 2006 from 9:30 AM to 11:00 AM. Funeral services will follow at the funeral home on Wednesday, beginning at 11:00 AM. Rev. Mark Swanson will officiate. Inurnment will be at Oakwood Cemetery at a later date.
The former Fern Esther Steil was born on April 21, 1917 in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin to the late George and Esther (Schleisner) Steil. She graduated from Beaver Dam High School, Class of 1934. On July 3, 1948, Fern was united in marriage with Arthur Schlaff at the rectory of St. Peter”s Catholic Church in Beaver Dam. She worked in the office at Weyenberg Shoe Factory for 27 years. In retirement, Fern and Arthur loved to travel. Years ago, Fern was the secretary of the Women”s Bowling league in Beaver Dam and she also was one of the founding members of the credit union that is currently known as Dodge Central Credit Union. She was also a member of Trinity Church – United Methodist n Beaver Dam.
Survivors include her husband, Arthur Schlaff of Beaver Dam, her brother, George (Kathleen) Steil of Beaver Dam, her sister, Pearl (Richard) Hilling of Indianapolis, Indiana, four nieces and a nephew, Janine (Curt) Jorgensen of Beaver Dam, Maureen Steil of Sparks, Nevada, Greg (Julie) Steil of Beaver Dam, Laurel (Rauol) Moore of Crawfordsville, Indiana and Linda (William R.) McQuade of Indianapolis, Indiana, other relatives and friends. Fern was preceded in death by her parents.
The family suggests that memorials be made in Fern E. Schlaff”s name to Trinity Church – United Methodist or the Meals-on-Wheels Program.
The Murray Funeral Home in Beaver Dam is serving the family.
