Florence L. (Gundrum) Schaefer, age 96, of Appleton, Wisconsin, passed away on Thursday, June 27, 2024, at Prairie Ridge Assisted Living in Mayville.
Graveside prayers for Florence will take place on a later date at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Allenton.
Florence was born on March 22, 1928, in Slinger, Wisconsin. She was the daughter of the late Joseph T. Gundrum and Elizabeth (Rohlinger) Gundrum. Florence attended St. Peter’s Catholic School and Slinger High School. After high school, she was employed at J.C. Penney’s in West Bend and later at the Schaefer Pipe Organ Company in Slinger. This is where Florence met her future husband Joseph G. Schaefer. They were married in 1947 and celebrated 68 years of happiness together.
Florence and Joseph moved to West Bend where she was a cook for the government lunch program for the West Bend School District.
In 1985, they retired to Appleton where they lived for 31 years. Florence was a member of St. Bernadette’s Catholic Church in Appleton.
Florence is survived by her children: Joseph K. (Susan) Schaefer, Mark K. Schaefer, Randall J. (Sally) Schaefer, and daughter in law- Mary Schaefer; grandchildren: Lisa Urich, Lori (Jeff) McKean, Michael (Terri) Skeris, Jessica Schaefer, Paul Cleavland, and Linda Prost who was loved as a granddaughter; great-grandchildren: Devin Urich, Katie Urich, Benn McKean, Adam McKean, and Brenna Jo Schaefer; and siblings: Grace Junger and Kenneth Gundrum. Florence is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Florence was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; son Richard; sisters: Dolores Held, Valeria “Larry” Komp, and Eileen “Micky” Bergin; and brothers: Arnold “Butch” Gundrum and Paul “Pink” Gundrum.
The family would like to thank the staff of Prairie Ridge Assisted Living and Generations Hospice Care for all of the loving care they gave to Florence.
