The windy weather prevented me from coming to the memorial service on Monday, but I wanted to be sure to let the family know how dearly we cared for Gertie. I lived next to Gertie and Spec on Gould Street for about 10 years in the 1980s to 1991 when I moved to Madison, and made visits after that at least once a year or so. As the obituary says, Gertie WAS like a special grandma to my daughter Maggie, who fondly remembers sitting on their back porch eating a cookie after school. I'm sorry to have lost touch the last couple years. Just know that your mom/grandma made a warm mark that will live on as a role model of showing kindness, sharing her big heart.
Our warm and sincere condolences to the family of "Gertie". Her smiles and kind heart will live in your hearts forever! She is at peace but her memories live on. God Bless you all!
