Harlo Ann Hemling (Schumann) 77 went into her Saviors arms on Thursday, November 21, 2024 at Marshfield Medical Center surrounded by her family.
Harlo was the oldest child of Edmund and Alice (Simonson) Schumann, born on January 6, 1947. Harlo attended school in Portage until 5th grade. Then the family moved to rural Fall River, WI where she graduated from Fall River High School in 1965.
Harlo married her soul mate James Hemling on October 23, 1976. They enjoyed motorcycle rides, visiting family, and watching NASCAR, Packer and Badger games. They also enjoyed their trips to Washington DC, Branson, MO, Florida, Nebraska, Michigan and Texas over the years as well as “cruising” in the Mustang.
Harlo was a member of St. Stephens Lutheran Church in Beaver Dam, WI. Over the years she belonged to the choir, mission aide and was the VP and President of the LWMS group. She spent many hours sewing, quilting, knitting, crocheting and putting together puzzles. She hand made a wedding dress for her daughter Gini, and she made 5 bridesmaid dresses for her son Tim’s wedding. She also has made a quilt for each of her grandchildren, which they receive on their high school graduation. Family was everything to her.
Harlo is survived by her husband Jim, children – Victoria “Vicky” (Rob) Orth, Virginia “Gini” (Tom) Ruhland, Thomas “Tom” (Melissa) Cigelske, Timothy “Tim” (Sandy) Hemling, and Amanda “Mandy” (Rick) Springstroh.
Thirteen grandchildren: Sarah (Brandon) Fair, Andrew (Laura) Stegner, Elizabeth (Tony) Glander, Johnathan Stegner, Rachel Ruhland, Ana (Alex Tousey) Cigelske, Rebecca (Daniel) Pankow, Carly Ruhland, Erik, Crystal and Nathan Springstroh, Micah and Hannah Hemling.
Ten great grandchildren: Grace, Oliver, & Samuel Stegner, Olivia, Elliott, Leroy & Kaeson Stegner, Brandon II & Harlo Fair and Silas Pankow.
Harlo is also survived by her brother David (Kristine) Schumann, her sister Penny Schumann, sister-in-law Susan Luckow and brother & sister in-law William III (Diane) Hemling, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Harlo is going home to be with her infant daughter Sarah Lynn, parents Edmund and Alice Schumann, Step-father Lawrence Porter, father & mother in law William Jr & Inez Hemling, brothers Harlan “Butch” and Daniel Schumann and brother-in-law Roger Luckow.
A visitation will be held at St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church in Beaver Dam on Wednesday, November 27, 2024 from 9 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 12 p.m. Rev. Philip Heyer will officiate. Interment will take place at Oakwood Cemetery in Beaver Dam.
The family would like to thank Dr. Catherine Nelson and her granddaughter Elizabeth Glander for their compassionate care over the years.
