Harold Dittberner, age 79, of Horicon, died at his home on Wednesday, January 3, 2007.

Friends and family may call on Sunday, January 7, 2007 at the Murray Funeral Home in Horicon from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM and again on Monday at the funeral home from 10:00 AM until the time of the service. The funeral service will follow the visitation on Monday, January 8, 2007 at 11:00 AM. Rev. Scott Roen will officiate. Burial will be in Stone Cemetery in the Town of Burnett.

Harold Dittberner was born on July 20, 1927 , in Cambria, Wisconsin, the son of George and Helen (Beich) Dittberner. Harold was a 1945 graduate of Horicon High School. On October 30, 1948, he was united in marriage to Gladys Rosenthal at Zion Lutheran in Horicon. He lived most of his life in his family home in the Town of Burnett, where he helped his father make cheese for many years. He worked various jobs in the area and was a mason for Otto Zander for many years, full and part time. He was employed at John Deere Horicon Works for over 30 years retiring in 1989. He enjoyed fishing and most of all he enjoyed playing cards and visiting his friends.

Survivors include his four children, LuAnn (Thomas) Bunkoske of Horicon, RoxAnn (Kurt) Sayles of Horicon, Curtis Dittberner of Manitowoc, and Larry ( Bettie) Dittberner of Montello; his special friend and companion, Evelyn Ulmer of Horicon; his nine grandchildren, Kim ( Josh) Heimerl, James Dittberner, Travis (Jamie) Dittberner, Carrie (Dean) Twardokus, Kevin Bunkoske, Kyle (Jessica) Bunkoske, Heather (Jeff) Fousek, Stacey Bunkoske and Katie Bunkoske; his five great grandchildren, Landon, Parker and Ayanna Heimerl, Trent and Nathan Twardokus; his brothers and sisters, Ruth (Richard) Graff of Beaver Dam, Vivian Karst of Burnett, Robert (Sandy) Dittberner of Merrimac, Merlin (Nancy) Dittberner of Beaver Dam and Russell (Pat) Dittberner of Horicon; his dog, Mandy; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Harold was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Gladys, on December 27, 1996; and his two brothers, George and Kenneth Dittberner.

I was in coach Hilbers advanced math class at Cassville in 1978 and remember him turning around a losing football program and making it great! I've often wondered how many acres of grass he chewed through during those stressfull games. My sincere condolances to all of his family and friends

I would like to offer my deepest sympathy to the family. I have many great memories of Coach and I will continue to cherish those.

My deepest sympathy to you. I went to high school with Alex but was a year older than him. Although I didn't know Alex well, what I did know of him was he a great guy and a super athlete. My family lived at the corner just down from the high school. I have many fond memories of the basketball and football games and all of the joys of living in a small town. May all of you find comfort in all the happy times you share. My best to you and your family.
