Helen L. Sage

November 13, 1927 - June 11, 2010

Helen “Mumzie” Sage, age 82, formerly of Horicon, died on Friday, June 11, 2010 at the Golden Living Center in Beaver Dam.

A memorial gathering will be held at Zion Lutheran Church in Horicon on Friday, June 25, 2010 from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM. Memorial services will follow at the church on Friday at 11:00 AM. Rev. Mark Hasty will officiate. A luncheon will be held at church immediately following the service. Inurnment for both Helen and her husband, Willis, will be at Highland Memory Gardens on Friday, June 25, 2010 at 1:30 PM.

The former Helen Slavik was born on November 13, 1927 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to Alois and Josephine (Smatlak) Slavik. On August 14, 1948, she was united in marriage with Willis Sage in Milwaukee. In 1967, they moved to Horicon where Helen was a member of the Loss-Philipsky VFW Auxiliary Post #8057 in Horicon. She was a dedicated mother and wife who loved to have family gatherings and was a great cook. Helen loved watching birds and enjoyed flowers and crocheting; she also enjoyed watching soap operas.

Survivors include eight children, Sandra Dutton of Rhinelander, Barbara (Terrence) Goetsch of Horicon, Debra (Jim) Johnson of Evening Shade, AR, Patricia (Joseph) Wagner of Horicon, Willis (Marcey) Sage, Jr. of Beaver Dam, Laura (Maurice) Mack of Beaver Dam, Louis (Judy) Sage of Horicon, and James (Denise) Sage of Ash Flat, AR; 26 grandchildren; several great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; her sister, Emily Schmitz of Muskego; a son-in-law, Adrian Schock of Trempealeau; other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Willis on December 12, 2009; two daughters, Johanna Sage and Linda Schock; four brothers, Jerome, Frank, George, and James, and a sister, Rose.

I wish to extend my deepest sympathy in the passing of your mom. She was a "spunky" lady, whom I enjoyed stopping in to visit at GLC. I always enjoyed joking around with her and to get her to laugh. I know she loved her family deeply even though at times you may not have felt appreciated. Laura, you took such good care of your mom and your dad too, when he was at GLC.
