We were former parishioners @ St. Philip Neri Church when Fr. Mel was the pastor. We really appreciated him and wished he could have stayed longer. Sometimes we bumped into him @ Champion Chicken and had a good visit.
Aunt Irene was my dad''s older sister. When my dad died in a tragic accident in 1960, aunt Irene along with uncle Melvin helped my mom, my three sisters and me get through some pretty rough times in those early years. Aunt Irene was always very kind to my mom and went out of her way to ensure my sisters and I were included in Karas family functions. I remember Christmas eve celebrations at Grandpa Karas''s house. My mom didn''t drive, so aunt Irene and Uncle Melvin made sure we got there by picking us up and taking us there, sometimes in two car runs. Aunt Irene was a great story teller. I wish I had written down some of her stories she told us about our dad and the rest of his family as they grew up in Horicon because I have forgotten some of the details. Aunt Irene will be missed but not forgotten.

Aunt Irene was a special Aunt to me and my sisters when my parents died she never forgot us and always keep in touch.Several times we took her out to eat and invited her to parties. She always had a cute story about my Dad and the rest of the family as they were growing up. We were visiting my mother-in-law at the Golden Living Center and we found out she was there and we went to visit her alot on Sundays. But she didn''t remember us at all. She said she had no family only a son. I asked her if I could come see her again and she always said yes. She was quite but would listen and smile. Oh yes she always said she was 93 and was very glad she lived so long. I will miss her kindness and thoughtfulness and those delightful stories from the past.......... Barb

Irene was a fine little woman with a fiery personality and a mind very much her own. I fondly recall a few times spent with her in the kitchen at the Labor Temple cleaning up after some wedding reception, or other event. The talk was always invigorating. I most vividly remember dinner at the Pomerville''s when I was only about ten years old. You lived by St. Pete''s then. It was my very first meal away from home and family (excepting Scout activities) and I wanted to make a good impression. Well, there were cherry tomatoes in the salad, and having never seen one before, I stabbed at it with my fork and it skipped across the table. I turned red in the face and gave Mel and Irene a good laugh. I miss her, too. She had a good, long life. Kind Regards, Bob
