Irmgard I. Meyer

Irmgard Irma (Twardokus) Meyer, age 94, passed away on Friday, July 17th, 2026, with her family at her side at the home of her daughter Bonnie in the Town of Herman.

A Funeral Service for Irmgard will take place on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church in Iron Ridge with Rev. Nathan Schulte officiating. A visitation for Irmgard will be held at church on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at 1:00 p.m. Following the service, interment will take place at St. Matthew’s Cemetery in Iron Ridge.

Irmgard was born on Sunday, January 17, 1932, to Frank and Hilda (Quandt) Twardokus in Town Herman, WI. She was baptized as an infant on February 8, 1932 and was later confirmed in her faith as a youth on March 25, 1945, both at Trinity Ev. Lutheran Church in Huilsburg, WI. She finished 8th grade at Huilsburg School and was thereafter needed to help at the family farm. Irmgard was united in marriage to Elmer Meyer on September 12, 1951, at Trinity Ev. Lutheran Church in Huilsburg, WI. The couple was blessed with 72 years of marriage.

Irmgard’s faith was very important to her. She was a longtime member of St. Matthew’s Ev. Lutheran Church in Iron Ridge and belonged to the Ladies Aid and choir.

Early in life, she helped on her parent’s family farm, taught herself how to sew, and helped neighbors with their children. As a parent, she helped start a 4-H club in the area and was a leader for many years in the sewing project. She mastered many crafts and skills: dollmaking (along with making all the clothes, shoes, and accessories), knitting, quilting, crocheting, bobbin lace making, rosemaling, dried flower arranging, and more. Gardening and preserving foods occupied much of the summer months. She belonged to and helped many organizations: Pommerische Verein, Dodge County 4-H Leaders Association, Mother Hubbard HCE, Doll Club, Town Herman Poll worker, and WLA Ladies Auxiliary. Irmgard and Elmer enjoyed travel to Alaska, California, Philips’ cabin, various camping locations, and numerous trips to Germany where she enjoyed working on genealogy.

Irmgard is survived by children: Bonnie (Leo) Borden, Irene Bakken, Dawn (Randal) Cutter, Courtney (Amy) Meyer; 16 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren. Irmgard is further survived by many other relatives and friends.

Irmgard was preceded in death by her husband Elmer (2023), parents (Frank and Hilda), 2 brothers (Raymond and Marvin along with wife Arlene), a sister (Lorraine), and son-in-law (Richard Bakken).

The family is very appreciative to Lily Hospice for their support in care for Irmgard. Special thanks to the caregiver team of Taylor, Courtney, Danielle, and Shaunte.

In lieu of flowers and plants, the family is requesting memorials be directed to St. Matthew’s Ev. Lutheran Church.
