It is with great sadness that the family of Jan Marks announces his passing on March 8, 2025, at his home in Columbus, WI from a long journey with cancer.
Jan was born June 26, 1954, to William and Marlene Marks (Chase). Jan attended Columbus public schools and started working as a Cement finisher at the age of 16 until his retirement in 2007.
Jan is survived by his wife of 35 years Brenda Marks (Hartwig), son Josh, daughter Amanda (Jason) Schultz, three grandsons who were his pride and joy, Jeff Marks, Lane Schultz, Levi Schultz and Baby Schultz due in June. He is further survived by sisters Teri (Brian) Murray, Lori Marks and Julie Marks, and brother Billy (Amber) Marks, mother-in-law, Linda Hartwig, sisters-in-law, June (Doug) Weiss, Rebecca (Dan) Woolever, Jackie (Bill) Hopfensberger, brother in laws, Jeff (Kristen) Hartwig, and Brian Hartwig as well as many aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Jan was preceded in death by his brother Bobby, father-in-law Albert Hartwig, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
The family would like to give special thanks to Jan’s niece Mackenzie Dilley and the Hillside Hospice nurses Jess and Shelley for their timeless compassion and help with Jan as he advanced along his journey. The family would also like to acknowledge John Neesam and Billy Fritz for being great friends to Jan over the years.
Per Jan’s wishes, there will be no service.

Our sincere sympathy in your loss of Jan. Phil and I walked in you neighborhood often and visited with him and or Josh and the dogs. I remember when he had the pizza place at the Tremont Hotel. It was delicious! And we were bummed when he closed. Brenda, he had a good life with you, thinking of you in your loss

Dear Marks family , I knew this day would come , when the Cancer would take Jan on his last ride. Jan and I go way back in time , before he was a cement finisher,Jan worked for me learning autobody repair and he always did a very good job of finish work and masking the body for painting.
When Jan meet Brenda , he told me , that he liked autobody , but he needed more money and benefits. I think maybe Josh was on his way? That is when Jan started his career as a cement finisher, later on I had Jan finish my basement floor and cement pad for a garage addition. Jan also loved to listen to the Old Black Blues Artists for music taste. JOSH you are now the MAN of the house please take care of your mother. Back in day we gave Jan the nickname of " Flamingo". So fly HIGH Flamingo, fly HIGH.
