Jean E. Powell, age 93, died Saturday, November 12, 2022 at Beaver Dam Health Care Center.

In keeping with Jean’s wishes, she will be buried at Wisconsin Memorial Park in Brookfield near her husband.

The former Jean Edith Weiland was born on October 7, 1929 in Beaver Dam to the late Ernst and Edith (nee Smith) Weiland. She was united in marriage with Roy Matzdorf who preceded her in death in March of 1962. Jean was an avid reader of magazines and books and particularly enjoyed biographies and history.

Jean is survived by her three children, Gregory Matzdorf of Juneau, Meredith Bahr of Toledo, Ohio, and Sally (Brian) Remmen of Reeseville; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents and husband, Jean was preceded in death by her daughter-in-law, Rita Matzdorf; her son-in-law, Edwin Bahr; her grandson, Jeremy Bahr; a brother, Jack Weiland; two “sisters”, Anyra Thieme and Myrna White.

Jean was one of my very favorite residents at the nursing home. I took care of her the entire time she resided there. She was trying at times but that was what made her special to me. No matter how confused she got her face always lit up when she saw me and she always said she was happy to see me as I was to see her. She will be truly missed. Very special lady.
