Jean Marie Henderson, 91, of Beaver Dam passed away on Wednesday, May 15, 2024 at Heartsong Assisted Living in Berlin.
Jean was born on September 27, 1932 in Waupun to John and Elsie (Krueger) Andrews. She graduated from Waupun High School in 1950. Jean was married to Delor H. Henderson on March 14, 1953 in Waupun. Jean graduated from Neenah-Menasha School of Nursing on November 14, 1951. On the Wisconsin State Board, she was the only one to receive an A in her class. Throughout her career, she was employed as an LPN with various nursing homes, hospitals, and doctor’s clinics.
Jean was an avid Chicago Cubs fan, along with Del attending games in Chicago, Milwaukee and St. Louis.
She was known for baking pies and her rhubarb pie was killer! She also passed on the tradition of baking Christmas cookies with many family recipes. Everyone loved her Baking Ammonia Cutouts.
Summers included golfing on courses around Wisconsin and playing slots at various casinos.
Always independent, Jean embraced the changing times, living through the transition of using cook stoves to new technology mastering electronic devices.
She had a love of dogs and Sam and Sadie were beloved members of the family. She also had a favorite “granddog” Augie. Jean raised many family pets, Walter, the duck, created many memorable stories.
Her hobbies included sewing, crafting and her favorite was reading! She always kept a good book on her bedside table.
Jean was loved by many. She enjoyed the opportunity to share her family history and many other stories. She was quite the character. Anyone who knew her would say, “There will never be another Jean Henderson.”
Jean is survived by her three children: Darlene Marie (Brian) Brehm of Kokomo, IN, Ross Delor Henderson of Sayner, WI, and Ellen Dee (Don Strothman) Puckett of Cape Coral, FL. Three grandchildren: Eric Brehm, Andrew Brehm and Kelly Henderson. Great grandchildren: Dylan Brehm, Layla Brehm, Iris Brehm, Roman Brehm, Mercedes Birschbach and Brenden Birschbach and one great great grandson, Bennett Birschbach; other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Delor in 2014. Three brothers, James, Robert and Gerald along with her two sisters, Helen and Juliene and granddaughter, Kelly.
No funeral services are being planned. Her ashes, along with her husband’s will be spread at Lake Superior at a later time.
