Jeffrey Michael Nothem, age 59, of Mayville, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Friday, January 23, 2026.
Funeral visitation will take place at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Mayville on Saturday, January 31, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., with a memorial Mass immediately to follow with Rev. Zachary Galante presiding.
Jeff Nothem was born on December 8, 1966, to Ralph and Beulah (Goschey) Nothem. He was a graduate of Slinger High School and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science from Herzing College of Madison. Jeff was united in marriage to the love of his life, Lara Funke, on September 10, 1994, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Lake Church, Wisconsin.
He worked for over 25 years at Scag: Metalcraft of Mayville as a Product Improvement Specialist, and loved to tinker- he was always bringing home tools and machines to use and share with neighbors.
Jeff was inspired by God’s creation and was blessed with an incredible gift of creative talents and selflessness. Whether it was costumes, pajamas, various wearable art, beautiful pieces of decor for his wife and kids, whom he adored, rosaries for those he shared his faith with, or cathartically hand carving, forging, crocheting, painting, and tying flies, everything Jeff touched became beautiful.
An active member of his community, Jeff volunteered for the Marais Players with countless set builds and teardowns, crafting props, and always supporting his wife, both on and off stage. He was an active member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church as a member of the Knights of Columbus and was also on the men’s bowling team.
Jeff was happiest having porch chats, making people laugh, creating and cooking for his family and friends, disc golfing, throwing a toy for Connor (their beloved dog), and spending time in nature.
The Nothem family received Luxembourg Dual citizenship in 2021, and Jeff and Lara enjoyed an eleven-day trip to Luxembourg in September of 2024. They always found peace, love, and laughter when together, especially up at their cabin with kayaking, fishing, campfires, playing cards, and listening to the whippoorwills.
Jeff is missed by his loving wife Lara; their children: Marissa Nothem, Andrew “Rue” Nothem, Julia Nothem, and Hannah Nothem; and his siblings: Keith Nothem, David (Geri Fromm-Nothem) Nothem, Mark (Nancy) Nothem, and Sandra (David) Noegel. Jeff will be fondly remembered and deeply missed by his nieces, nephews, other relatives, beloved friends, and all those lucky enough to have known him.
Jeff was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Donna Nothem, his twin brothers Terry Nothem and Tyler Nothem, and his sisters-in-law: Betty Christen-Nothem and Carol Beisbier Nothem.
