John L. “Jack” Otto, age 86, died Sunday, July 15, 2018 at his home in Beaver Dam. A memorial gathering will be held at Koepsell Murray Funeral Home in Beaver Dam on Friday, July 20, 2018 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. where the rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. On Saturday, July 21, 2018, there will also be a memorial gathering at St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Church in Beaver Dam from 10:00 a.m. to 10:50 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at church on Saturday beginning at 11:00 a.m. Inurnment will be held at St. Patrick Cemetery at a later date. Jack was born on June 30, 1932 in Ripon, Wisconsin to the late Alvin and Sophie (Dudzinski) Otto. On November 10, 1951, he was united in marriage with Rita Hady in Watertown. Jack worked for Hanefeld Brothers Trucking in Burnett as a cattle buyer and a truck driver for 50 years. When he wasn’t working, he loved to travel and had visited all 50 states. Jack enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time at the family cottage on Buffalo Lake near Montello. He was active in the Buffalo Lake Improvement Association and helped form the Buffalo Lake District. He was a long-time member of the Knights of Columbus Pope John XXIII Council 1837, St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Parish and had been active in the St. Patrick Athletic Association and their Bingo Committee. Survivors include his wife, Rita Otto of Beaver Dam; six children, Roxanne (Jay) Ciatti of Milwaukee, Patricia (Gregg) Schepp of Columbus, Mike (Mary Ann) Otto of Beaver Dam, Gordy (Jane) Otto of Beaver Dam, Phil (Dawn) Otto of Waunakee, and Andi (Jim) Larson of Beaver Dam; 18 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; two sisters, Donna Cullaz of Sussex and Sandy (John) Abuya of Oconomowoc; many other relatives and friends. Jack was preceded in death by his parents and his granddaughter Sara’s first husband, Ben Shunkwiler. If desired, memorials may be made in Jack Otto’s name to St. Katharine Drexel School Endowment, Green Valley Trösten Haus, The Beaver Dam Area Community Theater, or Hillside Hospice. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to Batkuu “Bill” Gombo (Good People Caregivers), the staff of Hillside Hospice, Tabbie the nurse practitioner from AGrace, Hillside Rehab staff, and Green Valley Trösten Haus.
