June Ann Gromowski, age 87, of Mayville, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 11, 2024 at Aurora Medical Center Summit.
A funeral service for June will take place on Friday, July 19, 2024 at 11 a.m. at St. Peter’s Ev. Lutheran Church in Kekoskee with the Rev. William Carter officiating. Visitation will be held from 10- 11 a.m. at the church on Friday. Interment will take place at Kekoskee Cemetery.
June was born the daughter of Harlan and Emma (Heimsch) Merrell on September 3, 1936 in Milwaukee. She was united in marriage to Robert R. Gromowski on September 1, 1956 in Waukegan, Illinois. She was a member of St. Peter’s Ev. Lutheran Church in Kekoskee. In her spare time, June enjoyed decorating and refurbishing household items. She also liked to travel. Coffee and sweets also played an important role in June’s life! History and genealogy were also a hobby that June liked. Family was important to her, and she cherished the time spent with them.
June is survived by her children- Richard (Karen) Gromowski of Hartford, David Gromowski of Lomira, Dennis Gromowski of Montello, Patrick Gromowski of Hartford, and JoAnn Gromowski of Mayville. Her brother- David (Linda) Gromowski of Greenfield. Her grandchildren- Kimberly Giese, Jennifer (Kyle) Uecker, Jessica (Daniel) Zimmerman, Joshua Gromowski, Sarah (Andrew) Becker, Michael Gromowski, and Samantha (Tiernan) Moore. Her great grandchildren- Makayla (Trevor), Abigail, Jordan, August, Delton, Aaron, Madeline, Aubree, Alexander, Charlie, Ethan, and Melanie. Her canine companion- Butterball, whom she shared many meals with! Further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Robert, twin sister JoAnn Merrell, sisters Caroline (Kurt) Knetsch, and June (Ron) Brunkalla.
Memorials in memory of June may be directed to St. Peter’s in Kekoskee or the Time of Grace Ministry.

June Gromowski, Mrs. Gromowski . . . a Christian, kind, caring and loving woman. Growing up in Redemption Lutheran Church on Milwaukee’s northwest side, adults were always addressed by their title and then last name. I think that’s respectful and out of habit, I have still referred to her that way.
My family and myself are church friends of the Gromowski family. But more than that, we have always considered them and been considered ourselves a real part of each other’s families. We first met over fifty years ago at church.
Visiting them for birthdays, etc. was always a fun day in Mayville. There was always a large cake and lots of ice cream. Mrs. Gromowski always said to me “I shouldn’t be eating this” . . . and then enjoyed her treat with a smile on that face. It made me smile too.
Her husband, twin sister and others she has lost along the way are now welcoming her to her heavenly home and I hope they are having cake and ice cream.
We are missing you, June, and hope that when the Lord transports us to our meeting with you again, you won’t forget the cake and ice cream. Any flavors will do.
