Kenneth E. Schlagel

Kenneth E. Schlagel, 75, of Beaver Dam passed away peacefully on Friday, June 23, 2017 at Clearview Nursing and Rehabilitation in Juneau. A visitation will be on Thursday, June 29, 2017 from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at Good Shepherd Ev. Lutheran Church in Beaver Dam. A funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Collin Vanderhoof officiating. Inurnment will follow at a later date at Highland Memory Gardens. Ken was born on April 23, 1942, the son of Edward H. and Ruby M. (Schepp) Schlagel in Beaver Dam. He was a 1960 graduate of Beaver Dam High School and then attended Valparaiso University in Indiana. In 1961 he joined his father and worked for C.C. Linck Inc., where he retired after 47 years. On June 29, 1963 he was united in marriage to Marlene K. Pluim. Ken was an active member of Good Shepherd Ev. Lutheran Church, where he has been a faithful member since its inception in 1950. Ken was a loving supporter of his grandchildren’s athletics, an avid hunter, a gun enthusiast, a proud member of the NRA and Operating Engineers Local 139. Ken is survived by his wife Marlene of Beaver Dam. His four children- Cory (Julie) Schlagel of Onalaska, Wendy (Jeff) Dobbratz of Plover, Tammy (Mike) Matuszeske of Fall River, and Kelly (Dean) Miller of Beaver Dam. His 14 grandchildren- Kelvin (Sarah) Schlagel, Kendall Schlagel, Casey Schlagel, Ashley (Ryan Pozarski) Dobbratz, Brianna Dobbratz, Zac Brown, TiaRae (Andrew Albrecht) Brown, Michael Jr. Matuszeske, Jake Matuszeske, Christina (Kyle Frake) Miller, Stephanie (Jacob) Salzmann, Brady (Chelsey Firari) Bauer, Kelsey (Dustin Pritchard) Bauer, Mason Miller. 10 great grandchildren. His brother- Daniel (Jan) Schlagel of Beaver Dam. Sister in law- Fawn Schlagel of Waupun. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his father and mother in law, Thomas and Della Pluim, his brother Duane and great granddaughter Avacyn Albrecht. Memorials may be directed to the Good Shepherd Roofing Fund. Special thanks to the staff of Clearview in Juneau for all of their care and support shown to Ken and his family and also to his man cave buddy at Clearview Jerry Billington for his company and friendship to Ken.
