Louis Victor Mayer, age 97, of Mayville, passed away at Avina of Mayville on Thursday, January 22, 2026.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Louis will take place on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Mayville with Rev. Fr. Zachary Galante presiding. A visitation for Louis will be held at church on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00 a.m. Following the service, graveside military honors will be conducted by the Mayville American Legion Post #69 at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Mayville.
Louis was born on June 4, 1928, to Victor and Phyliss (Bachhuber) Mayer in Mayville. He was a graduate of Mayville High School and then went on to attend St. Norbert College in De Pere. Louis served as a sergeant in the United States Army during the Korean War.
Louis was united in marriage to Ann Marie Antonioni on October 9, 1954, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Mayville, where they also were faithful members.
Louis was employed as a technician for East Central Breeders in Waupun. He later farmed on the west side of Mayville for many years. After that he went to work with his sons as a fishing charter captain with Barbie Doll Charters and Wondra Construction as a heavy equipment operator.
Louis enjoyed spending time outdoors, especially trapping the Horicon Marsh, hunting, and fishing.
Louis is survived by his wife, Ann Marie; his children: Robert Mayer of Horicon, Jerry (Mary) Mayer of Allenton, and David (Shari) Mayer of Mayville; his six grandchildren: Jessica (Joseph) Ebertsch, Kimberly (Jared) Lisko, Christopher (Kaley) Mayer, Marissa (Mike) Huber, Matt (Haley) Mayer, and Austin Mayer; his three step-grandchildren: Ryan Mueller, Lucas Mueller, and Steve (Becky) Mueller; ten great grandchildren: Chloe, Eli, Luca, Trinity, Gaige, Rory, Kieren, Emma, Emmett, and Kianna; and his great-greatgrandchild: Emerson. Louis is also survived by his brother and sisters-in-law: David (Robin) Antonioni and Mary Jean Antonioni. Louis is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Louis was preceded in death by his parents; his infant daughter Patrica; and his two brothers Charles Mayer and Victor Mayer.
Memorials in Louis honor, may be directed to St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Mayville.

Cousins, I am so sorry for the loss of your Dad. I remember him mostly from our visits to the farm where I would witness how hard you all worked and how much you ate at lunch to fuel up for the afternoon of work! I still dream of the fresh sweet corn. Your Dad was so soft spoken and warm.
