Mae P. Opel

Mae P. Opel, 102, of Columbus passed away on Friday, July 15, 2016 at the Larson House in Columbus.Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 22, 2016 at Faith Lutheran Church in Columbus. The Rev. Robert V. Moberg will officiate. A visitation will also be held on Friday, July 22nd from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. at the church. Interment will take place at Hillside Cemetery in Columbus.Mae was born the daughter of August and Anna (Beckman) Fietz on October 18, 1913 in Baraboo, WI. She was married to William Opel on December 18, 1935 in Columbus. She was employed with Jack Winter Clothing Co. in Columbus for many years, and later with the Kromer Cap Co. in Columbus for 10 years. Mae was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Columbus. Her hobbies included reading, quilting and baking. She enjoyed gardening and canning. In her earlier years, she loved camping with her family. Mae especially enjoyed family gatherings and the time she spent with her family. Mae is survived by her daughter, Marjorie (Roger) Westphal of Fall River; her son, Daniel (Tamara) Opel of Oshkosh; her brother, Orlin Fietz of Waupun; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; eight great-great grandchildren; and further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, William, her son, James, two sisters, and eight brothers.Memorials may be directed to Faith Lutheran Church or the Larson House both of Columbus.
