She was born on March 10, 1937, in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin, to Alfred and Mathilda (Dietenberger) Schmitt. Margaret lived her life in Beaver Dam. She attended St Peter’s School and graduated from
Beaver Dam High School. She then became employed by the Monarch Company until it closed its doors and worked at CC Linck until her retirement. She was a long-time member of St. Katharine Drexel Parish where she found fellowship while volunteering and helping others.
There are people in the world who are helpers. Margaret was one of those people. She had many hobbies. She enjoyed baking and was known for her beautifully decorated cookies which she shared with family and friends. Her flower garden was a source of joy for her. She loved to see the peonies, Johnny jump-ups, and Jack in the pulpits come up every year along with the poppies, violets, and chicks and hens. Her clematis was a source of pride growing as high and wide as the porch roof. Genealogy was her passion. With her love of history, Margaret did extensive research regarding her family tree including traveling to university libraries, taking classes to learn how to find sources, and sharing resources with near and distant relatives. She shared her results with the family teaching them about their heritage and marking important family events.
She is survived by her youngest brother, Richard (Kathy) Schmitt of Beaver Dam. Nephews and nieces Robert Schmitt (Wendy), Susan (Schmitt) Moran, Richard Schmitt (Marilyn), John Schmitt, Jennifer (Schmitt) Monthie, Trisha (Schmitt) Anderson (Matt), Cory Schmitt (Naomi), eight great-nieces, three great-nephews, and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Arnold Schmitt.
The family would like to extend their gratitude and thanks to SSM-Healthcare Hospice and Prairie Ridge Assisted Living for the compassion and care that was given to Margaret.
