Marion E. Cullen

Marion Eileen Schneider Cullen passed away on Monday, May 16th after a brief illness. A Mass of Christian Burial for Marion will be held on Saturday, May 21, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Annunciation Catholic Parish, 305 W. Green St., Fox Lake with Rev. Father Michael L. Wild as celebrant. A visitation will be held prior from 9:30 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. also at the church on Saturday. Burial will be at St. Peter’s Catholic Cemetery in Beaver Dam. She was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Marion was born on April 23, 1927 in Milwaukee, WI to George and Helen (Honrath) Glisch. Along with older brothers Bud and Bob, she enjoyed a large extended family, helping in her parent’s meat market, spending summers in Eagle River, and camping with her family throughout the country. She graduated high school from St Mary’s Academy in 1945 and from Alverno School of Nursing in 1948. She met her future husband, Albert Schneider, while on a clinical rotation at St Joseph’s Hospital (now BDCH) in Beaver Dam. They were married in 1949 and raised their four children in homes that Albert built. She was a mother extraordinaire, teaching her children about faith, compassion, patience, and unconditional love. She valued education, joyously embraced family and career, and supported all her children’s activities and dreams. Marion encouraged her children to explore the outdoors, play the piano, cook, bake, garden, sew, and enjoy sports. Most importantly, they learned how to love from her example. Marion loved her career in nursing, working at St Joseph’s Hospital, Medical Associates, and John Deere. She also assisted Al in his Real Estate business before nursing him through two types of cancer. When he passed away in 1988 she embraced a busy volunteer life in BD (Meals-on-Wheels, BDCH gift shop and OT department, Christian Mothers, First Beavers Homemakers, Election Polling). Marion lovingly welcomed her children’s spouses and eight grandchildren into the family, caring for each one as her own. She was a member of St Peter’s Catholic Church for 6 decades. In 2001, Marion was invited to have a cup of coffee with a handsome gentleman named Clarence “Rip” Cullen. That little cup of coffee led to marriage and 15 years of love and happiness. They were loving parents and grandparents to two large families. They traveled around the US and Canada, maintained their home and gardens, bowled in league for many years, and attended many joyous events with family. In recent years, they attended Annunciation Parish in Fox Lake. Marion is survived by her loving husband, Rip; her daughter Joan Schneider (Mike Levenhagen); daughter Lynn Schneider; daughter Karen Schneider (Andy Shrago); son Dave Schneider (Vicky); grandchildren Bryan Smith (Rebekah), Jennifer Levenhagen, David Schneider (Sheila), Jeffrey Levenhagen, Ben Shrago, Brad Shrago (Kayla), Andrea and John Schneider; great-grandchildren Elodie Marion, Paige Caroline, and William Albert. Also surviving are Rip’s children, Terry Cullen (Jill), Maureen Miller (Dan), and Laurie Hanser (Dennis), plus his six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Her sisters-in-law Barb Selle and Adeline Schneider survive her. Marion was preceded in death by her parents, George and Helen Glisch; her brothers George (Bud) Glisch and the Rev. Robert Glisch; her husband Al; her in-laws Art and Angeline Schneider; Al’s seven siblings; her special aunt and uncle, Joe and Josie Glisch, and many other relatives. In lieu of flowers, memorials for Marion may be directed to the Beaver Dam Scholarship Foundation, 718 Park Ave, Beaver Dam, WI 53916 or to a charity of one’s choice.
