Mark J. Johnson, age 82, of Beaver Dam, died on Saturday, December 27, 2025 at the Remembrance Home in Beaver Dam.
Mark Johnson was born on January 31, 1943, in Winona, Minnesota, to Joseph and Elaine (Donahue) Johnson. He graduated from Sacred Heart Catholic High School in Waseca, Minnesota, in 1962. On June 29, 1963, Mark was united in marriage to Janet A. Turnacliff.
Mark began his career in Beaver Dam at Herter’s Sporting Goods, where he served as manager for 17 years. After the store closed, he worked at Chrysler in Beaver Dam for another 17 years, later retiring from Advanced Products after eight years of service.
Mark was active throughout his life. He played softball into his 50s and had a deep appreciation for the outdoors, especially snowmobiling. Mark looked forward to arranging the annual snowmobile party and finding ways to make it an enjoyable event for everyone. He served as president of the Beaver Dam Conservation Club for six years and was a lifetime member. Mark was a devoted father and grandfather. As soon as his sons turned seven, they were old enough to partake in the annual trip to Canada, where they enjoyed fishing and roughing it in the outdoors. Mark rarely missed one of his grandchildren’s sporting events or other activities, cheering them on with pride. In his later years, he took up golf and spent many enjoyable hours at Beaver Dam Country Club. Mark was a fan of many Wisconsin sports, except when it came to football; he will always be a loyal Viking’s fan. Mark’s charming personality and his quick wit and humor will be missed by all who knew him.
Mark is survived by his wife, Janet Johnson; children, Lisa (Paul) Hillmer of Appleton, Paul (Jenni) Johnson of Oshkosh, Brad (Dawn Koceja) Johnson of Pewaukee and Todd (McKinsie) Johnson of Beaver Dam; eight grandchildren, Tessa (Jordon) Gersmehl of Appleton, Jenna (Peter) Shimek of Sun Prairie, Cole (Kayla) Johnson of Oshkosh; Blake Johnson of Neenah, Jordan (Emily) Johnson of Sun Prairie, Nate Johnson of Fond du Lac, Eli Johnson of Beaver Dam, and Mya Johnson of Beaver Dam; great grandchildren, Kaysin, Kam, Blair, Luca, Emmy, and Lainey; brothers and sisters, Marita Johnson of Rochester, MN, John (Verna) Johnson of Byron, MN, Judy (LaVern) Szyszka of Lake City, MN Carol (Byron) Larson of St. Peter, MN and Tom (Jean) Johnson of Grand Rapids, MN; brother-in-law, John Turnacliff of Mound, MN; nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.
