Marvin W. Klawitter

“Marvelous” Marvin W. Klawitter, 90, Beaver Dam, died on Friday, January 26, at Eagle’s Wings assisted living facility in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin. Marv was born on April 19, 1927, in the town of Beaver Dam, the son of Herman and Emma (Hildebrandt) Klawitter. He married Virginia Kennedy on June 25, 1955. Marv worked at Heiling’s in Burnett, Wisconsin, for 55 years where he developed many lasting friendships in the Burnett area. He is survived by one son, Mark (Mary) Klawitter and one grandson, Max Klawitter all of Beaver Dam; sister Irene Gentz of Jefferson; two brothers Hilbert (Arlene) Klawitter and Leonard Klawitter, both of Beaver Dam; sisters-in-law Shirley (Bob) Keel, Sun Prairie and Donna McCredie, Madison; and several nieces, nephews, and many friends. Marv was preceded in death by his parents, wife Virginia, son Kevin, sisters Ethel and Ruth, and brother Roger. Marv was a member of St. Stephens Lutheran Church in Beaver Dam where he served as a district elder. He was a proud member of the U.S. Army having served in Germany during the Korean War. He was a member of American Legion Post 146. Marv enjoyed getting together with his army buddies every August in Beaver Dam where they would reminisce and play cards. One of the highlights of Marv’s life was taking part in the Badger Honor Flight along with his son Mark. Marv was a Wisconsin sports lover. He enjoyed watching the Packers, Badgers, Brewers and Bucks in his “specially decorated” basement. Marv played hardball as a young man and was a member of the Rock River Oldtimer’s Association having been inducted into the Rock River Hall of Fame. He was a fixture at his son, Mark’s softball games and Juneau Rock River games and could be heard yelling, “It’s outta here!” whenever a home run was hit by someone on the team. If ever there was a “Beaver Dam Super Fan,” it was Marv. He loved attending Beaver Dam High School basketball and baseball games, as well as Legion baseball games. He was very proud of his grandson, Max, and was so grateful that he was able to see Max play baseball and basketball over the years. In addition to sports, Marv’s other loves were Studebakers, Euchre, the Wisconsin Lottery, billiards, spending time with his neighbors on Circle Drive East, and Bud Light. A big thank you to Marv’s care providers at Eagles Wings. Your care and compassion is greatly appreciated. Marv thought very highly of the staff and residents he came to know. Marv’s funeral will be held at Koepsell-Murray Funeral Home, N7199 N. Crystal Lake Road, Beaver Dam, on Saturday, February 3, 2018. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral at Noon. Interment will take place at Highland Memory Gardens, township of Trenton with military honors conducted by the Beaver Dam American Legion Post #146. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Badger Honor Flight. Marv would be very proud to have contributed to this organization that honors those who have served giving other veterans the opportunity to participate in the honor flight experience. Please celebrate Marv’s life with us at Park Avenue Sports Cafe, 709 Park Avenue, Beaver Dam, after the funeral. Bud Light and pizza on Marv.
