Mary Aileen Schraufnagel, 69 years old, of Fox Lake, won her final battle and passed away peacefully surrounded by her family at Meriter Hospital in Madison on May 20th.
A Celebration of Life for Mary will be held on Wednesday, May 29, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. at the Koepsell-Murray Funeral Home in Beaver Dam with celebrant John Leiting officiating. A visitation for Mary will take place on Wednesday, May 29, 2024, at the Koepsell-Murray Funeral Home in Beaver Dam from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 1:00 p.m.
Mary was born August 5th, 1954, in Ripon, Wisconsin to Wilfred (Mike) and Aileen Straseski (Madigan). She was a 1972 graduate of Waupun High School. On May 29th, 1971, she was united in Marriage with Leslie (Les) Schraufnagel, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, now Annunciation Parish, Fox Lake. Mary, one of the best waitresses you’d ever have encountered, working early years at Edna’s Supper Club and the Walther Haus in Fox Lake and then at Buckhorn Supper Club and The Nile in Beaver Dam. She worked part time as a US Postal Carrier starting in 1992 going full time in 2004 on a rural route until her retirement in 2017. Mary and Les made their home in Fox Lake for most of their 53 years where she was active in the community including a member of Annunciation Parish and the Fox Lake American Legion Auxiliary. Mary’s love for her family ran deep. She had a passion for gardening and serving others, donating crocheted gnomes and delicious desserts for fundraisers, blood drives, Legion dinner, funerals, and family gatherings.
Mary is survived by her husband of nearly 53 years, Les; son, Matthew (Tisha) Schraufnagel, Anna Maria Island, FL; daughter, Melissa (Jason) Fish, New Berlin, WI; three granddaughters, Elise (Bruce) Van Hierden, Makenzie (Kenzie) & Madigan Fish; one grandson Brett (fiancé Melanie) Schraufnagel. Great-grandson, Grayson Van Hierden. Five sisters, Amy (Bill) Hulbert, Kathy Bass, Luci (Steve) Tischer, Jane (Gordy) Otto, Peggy (Robert) Scott; one brother Micheal (Dorine) Straseski. Brother-in-law, Steve (Diane) Schraufnagel, Sister-in-Laws, Elizabeth (Eli) Miritz, Mary Clark, Anne (Glenn) Loest, Patricia (Patti) (Dan) Wiesner. Many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
