Merlin H. Zimmel, 92, of Mayville passed away on Thursday, July 3, 2014 at Clearview Long Term Care & Rehabilitation Center, Juneau, WI.
A funeral service for Merlin will be held at 6 p.m. on Monday, July 7, 2014 at St. John Ev. Lutheran Church in Mayville with Rev. James Mallmann officiating. A visitation will also be held on Monday, July 7, 2014 from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at the church. Entombment to follow at the Shrine of Rest Mausoleum in Fond du Lac.
Merlin was born the son of Henry and Verna (nee Loehrke) Zimmel on May 30, 1922 in Tn. Theresa, WI. Merlin was married to Arlene B. Rieth on March 6, 1954 in Milwaukee, WI. Together with his wife, Arlene, they both ran Merlene’s Lanes in Mayville , he was also employed at Maysteel Corp. of Mayville. Merlin was a member at St. John Ev. Lutheran Church in Mayville. He enjoyed bowling, golfing, cards, daily newspapers, Packers & Brewers and many summers at their cottage at Fox Lake with his loving family.
Merlin is survived by ; his children- Sandy (Ken) Bonlender of Kewaskum, Alan (Jackie) Zimmel of Mayville, Bruce (Terri) Zimmel of Brownsville, Laurie (Dennis Maus) Zirbel of Fond du Lac, Jodi Polzin of Amberg, and Mindy (Tony) Glad of Milwaukee. Step-brothers, Roger (Carol) Kuen, Norman (Eunice) Kuen: In-laws, Betty Kuen, Lucille Kuen, Janice (Steve) Meneau and Dawn Anderson . His grandchildren- Andrea (Jeremiah) Wulf, Sarah (Jason) Braatz, Tim (Sue) Bonlender, Melissa (Matt) Fischbach, Angela Zimmel, Amanda Zimmel, Matt Zimmel, Jordan Zimmel, Erica (Dan) Abfall, Tyler Zirbel, Andrew Polzin, Ben Polzin, Ashley (Ryan) Michaels, Nick Glad, and Kasie Kotewa. 16 great grandchildren. Further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, 3 step-brothers Milton Kuen, Sylvester Kuen, Hilbert Kuen, step-sister Elmira Peters.
