Merlin “Mert” R. Norenberg, Junior passed away on April 15, 2022, at UMC in Lubbock, TX.
Mert was born in Lowell, WI to Merlin and Bernice (Schmoldt) Norenberg on October 6, 1941.
He graduated school in Beaver Dam, WI in 1960. He received a Bachelor’s Degree from Northwestern University in 1965 and was initiated on April 19, 1966 into Epsilon Epsilon Chapter of Phi Delta Kappa at Northwestern University, Evanston IL. He received his Master’s Degree from Adams State College, Alamosa, CO.
He married Amy Schuster on August 18, 1987, in Juneau, Wi.
He worked as a teacher in the Phoenix Union High School District for 15 years. He moved to Fox Lake, Wi. He had various other jobs before teaching at the Fox Lake Correctional Institution in Fox Lake, WI, for 13 years.
Preceded in death by his parents, brothers-in-law Frank Smith, Joseph Grignon, Eugene Miller, Roy Daniels, Donald Smith, Donald Olson, Steven Schuster, sister Donna Mae Smith and grandson Kyle Norenberg.
He is survived by his wife, Amy; daughter, Shannon Kelleher (David Soybel); sons, Brian Norenberg (Dedra), and Kevin Norenberg; stepsons, Theodore Frank, and Craig Frank (Margaret “Meg”); sisters, MaryAnn Miller, Carolynn Grignon Smith, and Lolagene Daniels Olson, and Mary Jo Schuster Hayes (Arthur); sisters-in-law, Karen Schuster Sitton (Wallace “Bud”); brothers, Roger Norenberg (Jodie), David Kelleher (Brandon Wagner), Adam Norenberg, Emily Norenberg, Emily and Nathan Norenberg; step grandchildren, Johnathan Frank, Brian Frank, Hannah Frank, and Harper Frank; great grandchildren, Sophie and Isabel Kelleher; other cousins, nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to thank the Doctors and Nursing staff at University Medical Center for their care during his brief stay.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golf, gardening, woodworking, and cooking.
Memorial Service will be held on May 9th at 2:00 pm at Faith in Christ Lutheran Church. 1024 W. 14th LN. Portales NM88130 with Pastor Gary Piepmorn officiating. Another memorial service pending arrangement in Beaver Dam, WI.
