Miles Voss Jr., age 89, rode on his beloved John Deere tractor into the sunset on September 3rd, 2014 with his cows following.Miles was born on August 26, 1925 to Miles, Sr. and Meta (Bortz) Voss in Milwaukee, WI. In the early years of his childhood, the family moved to Dekorra briefly before settling at the farm in the Township of Hampden (Columbus, WI). Miles attended the Wisconsin School for the Deaf but did not complete his high school diploma during the World War II as his father and neighbors needed his help to operate the family farm as well as the neighbors’ farms.Miles was a proud owner of the dairy farm, an achievement that was unheard of for a deaf person at that time. In his younger years, his passion was basketball and he played with the Madison Association of the Deaf basketball team, as well as, served on Madison Association of the Deaf club as a president. In 1958, Miles married Patricia L. Boehler, and raised five daughters. Both Miles and Pat enjoyed traveling with the deaf senior group and were actively involved in the Happy 55 club. Miles is survived by his daughters, Karen Dishno (Daniel), Kristine Voss, Kathryn Voss (David Binning), Meta Cucinotta (Jeff) and Pamela Marhefke (David). He is further survived by 12 grandchildren, 4 step grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, 6 step great grandchildren and 2 nieces and a nephew, as well as, other relatives. Miles was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Voss, a daughter, Greta Voss, a grandson, Rowan Dishno, his parents, Miles, Sr. & Meta Voss, and a brother, Ralph Voss.A memorial service will be held at the Zion Ev. Lutheran Church, W6906 County Road K, Arlington, WI 53911 at 4:30 p.m. on September 29th with visitation beginning at 3 p.m. Private burial will be held at the Zion Lutheran Cemetery in South Leeds. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to www.nad.org (National Association of the Deaf) or to Zion Ev. Lutheran Church, W6906 County Road K, Arlington, WI 53911.The family wishes to thank the Serenity Homes of DeForest for their wonderful care of their Dad.Koepsell-Zeidler Funeral and Cremation Services in Columbus is serving the family. So sorry for the loss of this wonderful man. My parents (Leroy (Andy), and Marion Anderson), brought us to the farm in Columbus many many times when I was young. My one big memory of Miles was how he could drink from the water hose with out swallowing...just pour it down. My brother Mark worked on that farm, and one summer killed all the chickens (guess he didn't know chickens really need water every day). Lynn Cyr-Koehn (Anderson).
