Olivene C. Guppy Elgersma

April 30, 1923 - April 27, 2010

Olivene “Guppy” Elgersma, age 86, of Beaver Dam, died Tuesday, April 27, 2010 surrounded by her family at Hillside Manor in Beaver Dam.

Visitation for Olivene will be at First Ev. Lutheran Church in Beaver Dam on Friday, April 30, 2010 from 9:30 AM to 11:00 AM. Funeral services will follow at church on Friday, beginning at 11:00 AM with Rev.Mark Jensen officiating. Entombment will be held at Lakeview Memorial Park in Oshkosh.

The former Olivene Caroline Johnson was born on April 30, 1923 in the Town of Poygan, Winnebago County, Wisconsin to the late Alfred and Lucy (Fink) Johnson. She was a graduate of Oshkosh High School and worked for Beaver Dam Community Hospitals for many years. On June 26, 1984, Olivene was united in marriage with Gerrit Elgersma at First Ev. Lutheran Church in Beaver Dam. She was a long-time member of the church and enjoyed quilting with the church group. She was a loving mother and grandmother and she had a heart of gold.

Survivors include her husband, Gerrit “Bud” Elgersma of Beaver Dam; six children, Richard (Penny) Boschaert of Beaver Dam, Kathleen (Robert) Neuman of Waupun, Joy Poppe of Johnson Creek, Lorileen (Harley) Baehler of Fall River, Jean Guptill of Reeseville, and Joan Guptill of Beaver Dam; a daughter-in-law, Elaine Anderson of Beaver Dam; a son-in-law, Jim Stanek of Randolph; ten grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren; other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her son, Lynn Anderson, her daughter, Mary Stanek, her sister, Louise Woods, and a great great granddaughter.

The family suggests that memorials be made in Olivene C. Elgersma”s name to First Ev. Lutheran Church, 311 W. Mackie Street in Beaver Dam.

The family would like to thank Dr. Amy Muchow and the staffs at Hillside Manor, Beaver Dam Community Hospital, and Hillside Hospice.
