Oscar A. Semple, age 88, of Beaver Dam died on January 12, 2007 at the Golden Living Center in Beaver Dam. He is finally able to meet his biological father who was killed during World War I, before Oscar was born.
Friends and family may call at the Murray Funeral Home in Beaver Dam on Monday, January 15, 2007 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM and at Grace Presbyterian Church in Beaver Dam on Tuesday, January 16, 2007 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. Funeral Services will follow at church on Tuesday, beginning at 11:00 AM. Rev. Dr. Jack Harrison will officiate. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery in the Town of Beaver Dam, Dodge County, Wisconsin, where the John E. Miller American Legion Post #146 in Beaver Dam will conduct military honors.
Oscar Arnold Semple was born on March 13, 1918 in Kingston, Wisconsin to the late Oscar and Martha (Freiheit) Semple. He graduated from Cambria High School in 1937. On September 3, 1942, he was united in marriage with Myrtle Achterberg in Blytheville, Arkansas. Oscar developed an interest in aviation and enjoyed flying his Aeronca Chief airplane. He entered the Army Air Corps during World War II and served as a Flight Engineer. Oscar was part of the first squadron of B-32”s, with service in Japan, China, Luzon and the Western Pacific Theater of War. After the war, Oscar worked at Monarch Range for a few years before becoming a firefighter in Beaver Dam. He retired from the fire department in 1973 and worked for Beaver Gunite. When Oscar was younger, he and Myrtle took a trip to California on his Harley Davidson motorcycle. He also enjoy hunting, the annual fishing trips to Canada, and the trips with the “boys” to the Tar Paper Shack in Winter, Wisconsin. Oscar was a member of Grace Presbyterian Church in Beaver Dam, the Beaver Dam Conservation Club and the Clarence Keske VFW Post #1163 in Beaver Dam.
Survivors include his wife, Myrtle Semple of Beaver Dam, two sons, Kerry Semple and Kevin (Eileen) Semple, both of Beaver Dam, three grandchildren, Danielle Semple of Madison, Kaycee Semple and Kraig Semple, both of Beaver Dam, his sister-in-law, Doris Smith of Cambria, other relatives and friends. Oscar was preceded in death by his parents, his step-father, George Smith, his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Fred and Emma Achterberg, a son, Craig Semple, a daughter-in-law, Sandy Semple, a granddaughter, Shelli Semple, a sister-in-law, Vivian Sackett and a brother-in-law, Kenneth Achterberg.
