Oswald H. 'Ozzie' Vollmer

Oswald H. Vollmer, age 99, of Mayville passed away on Monday, December 11, 2017 at Hope Health and Rehabilitation in Lomira.A memorial Mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday, December 15 at 11 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church in Mayville with the Rev. Fr. Tom Biersack presiding. A visitation will be held on Friday, December 15 from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at 11 a.m. at the church in Mayville. Military Honors will be conducted by the Mayville American Legion Post #69.Ozzie was born the son of Albert and Ida (Troll) Vollmer on July 5, 1918 in LeRoy. He was united in marriage to Ruth Walker on September 30, 1939 at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church in LeRoy. He was a veteran of the US Navy. Ozzie worked at Maysteel until his retirement after 40 years of employment. He was an active member of St. Mary Catholic Church where he served as an usher and helped with bingo. He was a lifetime member of Field and Stream Sportsman Club and was also an active member of the Mayville Senior Center. In his spare time, Ozzie enjoyed gardening, hunting and fishing, polka, bingo, and bowling.Ozzie is survived by his children- Judy (Butch) Davis of Coatesville, IN., Robert (Jeanne) Vollmer of Mayville, and Carla Vollmer of Tampa, FL. His sister- Aurelia Schraufnagel of Lomira. His grandchildren- Brad (Megan) Vollmer, Kristin (Tim) Heim, Becky (Tom) Scharpf, and Cass Gilbertson. His great grandchildren- Addy, Dayne, Max, Dustin, Terra, and Alex. His great great grandchildren- Payton, Charlotte, and Connor. He is further survived by other relatives and friends.He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Ruth, and siblings- Gilbert, Felix, Aaron, Eddie, Frank, Albert Jr., Philip, Raymond, Lorraine, Ida, and Josephine. Memorials may be directed to St. Mary Catholic Church in Mayville.
