Robert J. Bortz, 88, of Beaver Dam passed away on Sunday, February 1, 2026 at his home.
Robert was born on September 11, 1937 to Hugo and Viola (Spars) Bortz. He was a 1956 graduate of Beaver Dam High School. Bob served in the U.S. Army from 1956 – 1958 in Washington D.C. in the Honor Guard at Arlington National Cemetery. Bob was in the mink business for 36 years. He loved animals especially Golden Retrievers. His fun in the winter was going to Ripon College to watch basketball games. Bob had served as president for the Oakwood Cemetery Board of Directors.
Bob is survived by his daughter Joy (Jeff) Schleusner of Middleton; his son Bart (Melissa) Bortz of Sun Prairie; grandchildren: Erin, Robin, and Adam “AJ” Schleusner and Noah Bortz; his sister Eunice Sackett of Beaver Dam; as well as other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Jane in 2025; sister Fran Krueger; and brother-in-law Larry Sackett.
A visitation will be held at St. Stephen’s Ev. Lutheran Church in Beaver Dam on Thursday, February 5, 2026 from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11 a.m. Rev. Matthew Reis will officiate. Interment will take place at Oakwood Cemetery in Beaver Dam.
