Sympathies and prayers to the Sharkey family. May Mr. Sharkey rest in peace.
Sue, Dave, Ty, Gwen and Xaviar, we are so sorry for your loss. Your dad was a wonderful guy who gave his whole heart to what ever he did. We enjoyed the bike rides he joined us on and could always count on his wit to entertain. I can't even begin to remember how many years you would see him at Christmas time ringing the for bell for The Salvation Army. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
I am so sorry to hear of your loss. Bob was my first supervisor when I started working at John Deere many years ago. He was very kind to me as I began my career there. You have my sympathy & prayers.
So sorry to hear about your dads passing Sue.You do have a wonderful family that will help and support you. Cal. and Sandy Eichsteadt
I met Mr. Sharkey up in Horicon, WI while preparing for the John Deere Weekend of Freedom Machines event. What an honor to meet a pioneer in the lawn and garden tractor world! I wish you all could have seen him at the 50 years event. He was a rock star in the eyes of the collector. The crowd couldn't get enough of his stories of his days at John Deere Horicon Works. I am so sad to hear of his passing. Kate Goelzhauser Managing Editor, Lawn & Garden Tractor Magazine
Jean, So sorry to hear about your dad. You and your family are in my prayer's. Janet Flint, friend, of Jean's
Bob is probably organizing a softball team of angels and trying to get St Peter to negotiate a game with the Red Devils. My first contact with big Bob was on the phone. He had found out I bought the Tavern which became the Lone Mallard. He "INFORMED " me that I would be sponsoring three softball teams. He was good for the town and it will be some time before another like him comes along! Rest in Peace Bob
Ray cannot believe that his good 'ole coffee buddy, and good friend, has left this earth. From meeting Bob and Dee early after our move to Horicon we heard his melodious tunes on the guitar. We will never forget "The Dodge County Accident". It still rings in my head. He always called with the words 'How is my favorite neighbor?" but in reality you all were ours. As Mayor and then the 'conscience of the city' he could not be beat. Well dressed, well mannered and always gracious as he was when we last visited in August. Our Blessings and Sympathy to the entire family.
From a former opponent then teammate to years of umpiring together, to taxes to coffee, Bob truly was a great man and friend. A true sportsman who we will sincerely miss. Our true condolences to his entire family. A man the city of Horicon will miss.
Always enjoyed Bob umpiring games at Lakeview. He was very knowledgeable and kept his cool when some teams took slow pitch softball way too seriously. Our condolences to his family. "Gentlemen we have a ball game!"
Leave a condolence or a memory.
Sharkey, Robert G. -- I must have typed that hundreds of times while he was my boss at John Deere. He was one of the influencial bosses I've ever had. I was always treated with respect with a little humor. I will never forget him as he gave me many opportunities to do more and/or better. Rest in Peace, Mr. Sharkey.
A beautiful memorial to R.G. I feel like I know him just from reading this and I never met him. Prayers surround the family and friends especially during this season that should be filled with love and joy. Seems that R.G. carried both of those gifts with him throughout his life. As he moves on to a new game, he leaves behind all of that and more. Let his memories and stories fill you this Christmas and beyond.
Growing up Bob was a neighbor of mine on S. Spring St. but best remember him umpiring the fun softball league at Lakeview Park for years. It was echoed many times throughout the fans and players at the game at the end of the game..... "Gentlemen, we have a game"... even after Bob no longer umped there.
To the family of Bob Sharkey: I knew Bob for many years as a player and an umpire in softball leagues and tournaments we played in both in Beaver Dam and in Horicon. He was a gentle man and a gentleman and he was deservedly well respected both on the field and off. I remember his friendliness and his courtesy, and of course I remember his trademark - "Gentlemen, we have a ball game!" You have my sincere sympathy at this sorrowful time.
