Robert R. Renner, age 91, of Mayville passed away peacefully with his wife by his side on Saturday, February 27, 2021 at Prairie Ridge in Mayville.A funeral service for Robert will take place on Thursday, March 4th at 12 noon at St. John Ev. Lutheran Church in Mayville with the Rev. Dr. Mark J. Cutler officiating. Visitation will take place from 11 a.m. until the time of the service at noon at the church. Burial will take place at St. John Lutheran Cemetery (Browns Corner) with military honors conducted by the Mayville American Legion Post #69. The family asks that all in attendance, please wear a mask and respect the social distancing guidelines.Robert was born the son of Rev. Otto and Ida (Olsen) Renner on March 26, 1929 in Milwaukee. In 1931 his parents and family moved to Wautoma, Wisconsin where his dad served as pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church. He graduated from Wautoma High School in 1947. Robert then joined the 11th airborne on occupation of Japan in November 1947. In 1948 he returned to Fort Campbell, Kentucky. When the Korean war started, his unit, the 187th Airborne Combat Regt. Went to there until 1951 and he was then honorably discharged. Robert then moved to the Mayville area, where his parents moved to Browns Corners, where his father served as pastor at St. John Lutheran Church (Browns Corners). He was united in marriage to Virginia Draves on September 25, 1955 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Wautoma. They were blessed with a daughter Ann. Ann passed away at the age of 5 from Leukemia. They then adopted a 10 year old boy named Christopher. Robert worked at Maysteel from 1951 – 1966 then went to Mayville Tool & Die, where he worked until retirement in 1992. In his spare time, Robert was a talented wood carver who created many spectacular projects. He also enjoyed working on his yard and gardening. Robert also enjoyed country western music. He was currently a member of St. John Ev. Lutheran Church in Mayville.Robert is survived by his wife Virginia of Mayville. His son Christopher (Sandy) Renner of New London. His grandchildren- Darrien, Devon, and Iris Renner. His sisters- Eunice Guerin of South Dakota and Rhea Halladay of California. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.He was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter Ann, brothers- Marvin, Harold, Paul, Art, Hubert and Marcus, his sisters- Helen Doehler, Vivian Risley, Lois Schimidt and Pheobe Gertsch.Memorials may be directed to St. John Ev.
