Roger R. Ascherien of Beaver Dam, Wisconsin, passed away on Monday, May 5, 2025, at Hillside Manor in Beaver Dam. He was 82 years old.
Roger was born on July 3, 1942, in Beaver Dam to Richard and Hilda (Jeche) Ascherien. On May 1, 1971, he married Patricia McCaffrey at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Beaver Dam. Together they were blessed with two children.
He dedicated many years of his career to John Deere in Horicon, where he wore many hats and retired in 2005. Roger had a strong sense of community and was known for checking in on friends at local establishments. In earlier years, he enjoyed road trips with his buddies to Illinois for lottery tickets before the Wisconsin Lottery existed—always stopping at the PineCone for a steak dinner on the way home.
Roger was an avid racing fan, always cheering for his nephews and became like family to many in the local racing scene. In winter, he found joy snowmobiling through the snowy Wisconsin landscape. A true enthusiast of dining out, Roger frequented Park Plaza for his favorite tuna and onion pizza with extra cheese, was a regular at Chili John’s Cafe, but if not found at those places he was somewhere ordering salmon.
A devoted Green Bay Packers fan, one of Roger’s fondest memories was attending a preseason game at Lambeau Field in August 2023. His family was his greatest treasure, though his beloved 1985 Mercury Cougar came close.
Roger’s presence will be deeply missed by those who knew him and shared in his passions and routines. Survivors include his wife, Patricia of Beaver Dam; daughter, Bobbi Jo (Scott) Hopkins of Johnson Creek; and son, Brad Ascherien of Beaver Dam; sister, Karen Horstmann of Waupun; sisters-in-law, Sharon Ascherien and JoAnn (Dave Kluz) Tiedt, both of Beaver Dam; John Sromalski of Fond du Lac; special nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.
